Title: Camping near YTC?
Post by: sagerat on November 22, 2016, 11:38:45 AM
Going to try to find a cow soon. Anybody have suggestions on someplace to crash at night in the canopy? Closer to the main gate the better. Please send me a PM. Thanks

Big pines camp ground in the yakima rover canyon.is nice. Or you could sleep in the park and ride right off the free way.

I was in Selah today. It wasn't that bad, compared to Kent or Tijuana.

How did you determine you weren't in Tijuana?

Those roads didn't seem all that bad to me in the time I spent there... no worse than a lot of forest service or weyco roads...  :twocents:

the roads on ytc have some fairly unique gravel, the kind that is notorious for popping tires

My advice is don't fall into the "I can see for miles, so I'll just drive and glass all day" trap.  This is how the fast majority of folks hunt the base and that is why the fast majority of tags don't get filled.  Get out and hike.  Thats just my two cents so take it for what its worth.

But Karl! I can see it all from the roads!  :chuckle:

Does a permit holder/hunter still have to check in at main office?

Sign on the dotted line and they'll let you camp out there for free and they'll even provide meals.

Yes everyone has to check in. Insurance, registration, passport, firearms on the list, hunting licenses and permits, rec card. Every time.

You can have an Enhanced Drivers License in lieu of a passport.
