Finally finished last year's ducks out of the freezer so I took Amber out today. There was not much flying but there were lots of Bufflehead and some Goldeneye in front of me. I did not have my seaduck card yet so figured I'd give the GE a pass if they came close. Down the bay were some Mallards with absolutely no interest in coming my way. Luckily, just before 8, a group of seven Wigeon decided to drop into my decoys out of nowhere. I should have knocked down five but I missed one on the way out after a quick reload.
Amber did a great job waiting in the blind so I sent her out after the Mallards flew off in different directions. On her second retrieve, she decided to grab two of them.

Finally got her out again for our second hunt. Had a bunch of Mallards nearby when I got to the bay so we had to stay a bit back from the water. Of course a bunch swam by at twenty yards five minutes before shooting time. Got to watch a Goldeneye eating little crabs at first light from about 25 yards away but I wasn't ready to spook the other birds up so gave him a pass.
I ended up knocking down two Bufflehead, one got away as my swatters kept missing her in the middle of the swarm. :( I also got a beautiful drake Common Goldeneye and two Mallards, I missed one other as it rocketed by me.
I might try the outside beach tomorrow to see if there are any Harlequins about.
