Title: Looking for a choke for my Weatherby
Post by: mendozer on November 23, 2016, 05:58:47 PM
Any input on a choke for ducks/geese?

I see there are many options for close, mid, long range. I feel like factory chokes are fine for short range. I'm specifically interested in long range power as this past weekend we got 7 geese in what should have been 9-11 as others got away with clear shots that injured birds, but those tough buggers got away. Here's what I've been looking at:

Patternmaster: classic long range/code black or the anaconda
Hevishot: 2 pack with mid and long range or just the long range
Carlson's: cremator ported

Any other input? A few are on sale this weekend so I'd like to pull the trigger on it.

The guy at PM told me classic and code black with with standard wads better and not the flight control wads while anaconda works with all wad types. I shoot Kent Fasteel which uses a standard wad, but who knows what I'll buy in the future. He also stated that both show roughly the same pattern down range.

Wad Wizard....been using them for years. When we started using them, they were the only one we could find that wasn't ported. The porting isn't all that bad for the shooter but it hell on your buddies next to you.

I'll second this. One of my buddies shoots a kicks in his benelli. He loves the choke but if you are at the right angle next to him, that think will ring your bell.
