I drew an early rifle cow tag (during modern deer) and filled my tag on day 4! Had an opportunity day 1, but the cow took off just as I got her in the scope. Day one was a bit of a goat rope, with another hunter accusing me of trespassing (to be fair, he didn't know I had permission from the land owner, as he'd only been dealing with her daughter and son in law), but after we got it squared away, the hunt continued!
saw several bulls (the photo with 7 elk in it are all bulls. two on the far hillside were BIG! :yike: like 350+!!) each day, but it wasn't until the 7 bulls slowly sauntered out of the field and the wind swirled that two cows beat feet across the field, stopping at 200 yards for a shot. I was a little excited and jerked the trigger, hitting her mid-body in the spine, keeping up my tradition of shooting animals in the backstraps! :bash:  another to the head ended her day.

I haven't hunted the E side in many years. Love that hay field shot with the critters on the hill side.

Just adding my slick heads to the post! Me and Dad done in four days east of the Mt.s

Shot mine a little high! But no tracking needed!

Thought I'd add mine too..Been crazy in the shop, but found a couple of days to sneak out and get into the woods. After 4 failed stalks throughout the day in a walk-in area, found this cow along with 12 others in a clear-cut towards the end of the evening. Was able to sneak close by bobbing and weaving through the jack-fir timber line along the cut and got to 40 yards. A great arrow right through both lungs, went 30 yards and crashed. Felt great to be in the woods and some more great meat for the family this year! Congrats to the previous pics/tag fillers! Joel-BRT
