Title: elk hunting with pup?
Post by: CoyoteCowboy on November 30, 2016, 06:24:44 PM
I have a wirehaired pointing griffon puppy (7-months) that the wife wants out of the house when I go hunting this weekend... deer and elk. Am I allowed to hunt with my pup in tow? Not using him to aid in my hunting??

Thanks!

pretty sure that's a big no no, but I could be wrong. If you had a camp set up and left it in camp that would be fine,

:yeah:

Having your dog with you while big game hunting is a great way to get the dog shot and/or a big ticket from the gamies.  In camp is fine.  Though I'd crate the dog rather than tying him up if you do that.  Much safer for the pup in case coyotes, or cougars are around.  A bear will still get it if they really want to.  But mostly the crate eliminates the chance that someone can accuse you of running deer or elk with the dog.

Well we had three dogs in elk camp this year for the entire muzzy season.
I saw several camps with dogs.
I would crate the dog. I have taken my dog on several outings.
Good crate training.
Just don't take him out with you while hunting. :twocents:

Dont take him hunting with u, leave him in ur rig. Its illegal to take him out with you and you never know who might mistake ur dog for a yote or something.

thanks guys!

aside from the dangers (I didn't think about all the ways he could be eaten); the section below seals the deal:

(RCW 77 15 240): Allowing a dog, owned or controlled by you, to pursue or injure deer or elk or to accompany you while you are hunting deer or elk is prohibited

crate at camp/rig it is.
