Title: Big kokanee
Post by: quackattack90 on December 31, 2016, 09:12:41 PM: Looking to make a trip this spring to find some big kokanee. Can anybody give me some lakes that hold such fish. I'm use to the little buggers out of the SW WA reservoirs. Thanks

Your right, Kokanee is a land locked Sockeye not Coho or other land locked salmon.

Yep. Mostly coho. No Kokanee

I've fished Yale. Tons of jokes, but not big uns.
Merwin has the bigger fish of these 3 reservoirs

Post by: MtnMuley on January 01, 2017, 11:55:20 AM: No kidding. I can't remember the exact name, but I believe they contracted some sort of parasite during last winter and basically killed them all. That was the bloodstock strain for many of the lakes in the state and was considered the best. The fish never surfaced nor were any found along the shores. Apparently the disease caused them to sink.

I have caught a few 20 inchers out of Alder but large kokes are few and far between. Most are around 12" range.
The Silvers in Riffe get pretty portly between 1 and 2 pounds are about average. Both Alder and Riffe are good for limits of fish. And Alder has a 10 Koke daily limit.

I have only fished Merwin once and we pulled two limits of 14 - 20 in fish and one 22 inch fatty.

Biggest I remember was right around 25" and built about like that chubby one already posted. Soft mouthed Devils for sure but easy enough to get used to and net.

Roosevelt just has big fish period. My biggest rainbow, biggest walleye and biggest Kokanee are all from Roosevelt. Also my biggest lake sturgeon :chuckle:
