Hello, I am brand new to the waterfowl sport and was hoping to aquire some wisdom on locations to go this time of year near the FT. Lewis area. I have a canoe. Am hopping to give the sport a try during and any help from the community would be very much appreciated!

The nisqually area is the only public spot I know of. Between the tide and the mud it can be a difficult hunt. Uses the Go  Hunt mapping tool on the wdfw page.

Your trying to hunt a difficult area that doesn't have a lot of areas. A large part of duck hunting is scouting to find spots and where the birds are. Good luck.

If you hunt the nisqually area be very careful! Conditions change VERY quickly, with 18 foot tidal swings the current can get ripping too. Be aware that the mud there can be really bad in some areas. Last year a guy had to be rescued by the coastguard because he got stuck in the mud and the tide was rising.

Try introducing yourself and sharing some info/stories on the forum.

Guys are super willing to help out if they know you're a good dude and make the forum a better place. Wouldn't be surprised if you actually get invited on a hunt in due time by other forum members.

Too many guys have rolled through, posted a "not looking for any honey holes" but tell me where to hunt post and never added anything helpful to the forum.

This coming from a guy who was a newbie on here just a year ago, good luck!

If you are military, just go onto North Fort and sign up at the sport center after watching a 20 min video. Then go hunt Chambers Lake.
