Title: Kalaloch Razor Clams
Post by: Practical Approach on January 10, 2017, 09:58:55 AM
Anyone have any success during the dig?  I was wondering if the beach was worth digging at again.

Report I heard was the clams are still pretty small there.

Interesting.  My last dig, I believe the last year it was open was horrible.  I have heard initially from folks that went that it is still bad.  However I don't trust his clamming skills so I was hoping for a second opinion.  Thanks.

I went the last year it was open too and thought it was pretty good, but there sure were lots of people.  You'd have thought someone was giving away free beer.  Then the state came out saying that the clams mysteriously got wiped out, some thinking an algae did it.  But then earlier this year the bios said the clam density down there was off the charts and they had to resample the data because they thought they were off by a factor of 100.  The downside of the data was that the clams were really small...like the size of a dime and the bigger ones were few and far between.
The state shut down surf perch now, so can't even fish for those before a dig.

Sunday was terrible. A plus tide and foul weather made getting clams virtually undo able. My son had 3, a buddy 5 and I saw four other people with 1 clam. They were all very small. I heard limits were had on Monday with a minus tide and better weather but clams are small.
