It's the second to the last day of your elk hunt this morning. Although you've gotten close and had a few opportunities on bulls, and, helped your buddy pack out his tasty 5X5, you've not released an arrow yet. After you've moved in on a vocal bull, you surmise that the bull and his gals are bedded about 60 yards from you. Game plan is set in your mind; you'll keep the wind in your favor for a bit and see what shakes out. After sitting, listening, smelling, and watching for 10 minutes you hear and visually detect movement coming from your front right. Back over your right shoulder, your buddy is a bit higher on the gentle slope than you and sees what's coming in and times a nervous grunt perfectly! This nice freezer filler stops where she is at now, 30 yards away.
Shot or no shot here?
If you're shooting, save the picture to your desktop and open in MS Paint, then place a spot, X, or whatever on the critter before you save it back to a jpg or png and add the marked up pic with your post.

TWACK, :cue:

Not at that angle. I'd try to side step to my left while at full draw to get in that shooting lane better. If she busts out of there, so be it.
-
With minimal pressure, I'm holding out for the bull. I don't want the cow bad enough to thread the needle.
no shoot

Yep, all day long.

4" lower than where Boss put his arrow

Ok then Red or Green ?
GREEN. All day long, no question, really-not-open-for-debate GREEN.
Winmag, your shot is nearly 1 full foot too far back. You'll be likely to hit some guts with that shot, although you'll probably also get the back of the lungs and some liver.
Pianoman, your placement looks near perfect. I'd shoot, close to where pianoman shot.

I like my heart pre-sliced. :chuckle:

I like mine sharply unplugged from the rest of the circulatory system, which is exactly what that shot does!

Pass.. if she's moving away from the herd, maybe they are following. If she's wandering away my herself, putting youself in between the herd bull in his girl could really tick him off, and you get to schwack the bull.

Wait for the bull. If your buddy is a buddy, he'll hook you up with freezer meat for helping you pack out his tasty 5x5.

If it's a permit hunt I'd wait for the bull, if otc then being that late in the season I'd shoot the cow. I had similar situation in 2014, plenty of cow shots but ate my sp waiting for a bull. Everyone has a preference.

I am not known for killing trophy animals I am ok with that and would be tickled pink to shoot a cow with my bow. Heck I'd even shoot a cow ELK with my bow :chuckle:. Seriously I don't often pass up good shots on legal animals.
-
Most 3d targets show the kill zone as too far back, it's bad to practice that way, IMO.
But I would take the cow for sure.
-
I am not taking a cow when I have a bull 60 yards away. If she busts me I am going to scream a serious challenge and run forward while my buddy thrashes the brush.
-
buglebrush, that's exactly how we killed this bull here! Getting aggressive instinctively can pay off, it takes very quick thinking!

I'd have shot him rather than wrestle and drown him!!! :yike: :chuckle: :chuckle:

LOL! That would have been a sight for sure, pinned! (grin)
