My uncle lives in California and I live in WA. None of his boys hunt or shoot and his health doesn't allow him to get out anymore. He wants to give me his rifle. How can I make this transfer happen legally?
I'm assuming I could pay shipping and fee to a dealer here in WA. Any recommendations for the tri-city area?
My other thought is that I will be on a road trip in CA in June. Can I pick up the gun and just drive it home? Any issues with a family transfer across state lines? I'm not a felon, no criminal record of any kind. It's just a standard bolt action hunting rifle.
On one hand it seems like family should be able to give each other guns no problem. I also know the nanny state is regulating everything as much as possible. So whatcha think?

Per Califilornia state law it has to be transferred into your name by an FFL holder.
