Title: Changing bows and releases..
Post by: vandeman17 on February 20, 2017, 02:32:00 PM: I am looking at upgrading my archer set up and I am looking and used as well as new. I also want to try switching to a thumb release. My question is if you guys think I should just buy a thumb release to use when test shooting bows or stick with with normal release? I am just afraid I might like the feel of a bow better with one rather than the other and also being that I am not used to shooting a thumb release it will hinder my decision making process.

Is this just for hunting? What are you using for bow and release now?
Back tension and thumb releases required a different anchor point for me and I couldn't get comfortable because I really like how I anchor.
I would almost recomend trying out bows with your current release or at least style so that you isolate the differences. 2c

This is mainly a hunting bow and my current set up is the rock by diamond archery. There are a few guys on here selling bows that I am interested in but also want to shoot some new ones. There is a sportsmans warehouse here in town

Post by: theleo on February 20, 2017, 02:55:33 PM: If you are certain you're going to change releases make sure you get a bow you can change the draw length on. Most hand held releases have a tendency to need an extra half inch of draw length. It'd be pointless to buy a bow then need to turn around and sell it because you couldn't get the draw length to fit with the new release.

The carter thumb releases were my favorite thumb triggers. Id say stick with what you know when testing new bows so your index release. When you get a thumb release hang on to your index release also.
