Well, the good news: I drew my Wyoming elk tag after 5 years of applying. Since my hunting buddy, GUHunter moved to Wyoming a few years back, I had been applying for a tag and was always a year behind, thanks to point creep. When I had two points, it took 3 to draw the area we wanted to hunt, when I had 3 it took 4 points...
So after much debate and talking to a few "locals" that GUHunter knew, it was decided I put in for a new area.
Well, I drew my tag!!
Bad news...wife is due with our second child at the end of September. You may be thinking, "no big deal"...but the hunt starts Sept 20th with a rifle. The second part of good news, the hunt runs through Halloween for any elk and then Nov-Jan for cows...So, I'm not giving up my elk tag. I've never killed an elk. I'm going to change that this year.
I'll post more updates through the summer as GUHunter and I get some scouting in.

Good luck on the hunt and more importantly with your new baby! Only taking 5 years I'm assuming it's an area that's fairly easy to draw? 250 to 300 class Bulls? Just curious because after 10 years I'm getting a bit impatient.

It's in the greater Pinedale area. Nothing crazy as far as big bulls. Lots of general hunts take place in the area, but the type 1 tags have a far more favorable hunt. I'm glad to finally be hunting elk with a rifle in an area where I have a shot at a bull!

Due to massive winter kill in Wyoming there are a lot of people that normally put in for the tags that will be doing the point only option. Good luck and I hope you can find some animals after this record setting winter. Most of Wyoming was hit extremely hard and is still getting hit hard. Guy Eastman says this is the year to buy points and it will probably take a few years to recover. One good thing is that they have started supplemental feedings for deer and elk but a lot of the locals say that it was started a little to late and the damage has already been done. We will have to wait and see its full affects this fall. Good luck!

I'm excited. Been scouring the inter webs for info and chatting up my friends and their friends for more info. Seems like it isn't gonna be a chip shot, but nothing great is.

You will do well. Within the unit go were people don't and hit the timber. Little square mile or so sections often hold the treasure.
