I've been looking into getting a new bow ( I'm not new to the sport, just been away for awhile) I have noticed that almost all of the bows come with D loops for releases, and very few with knocking points. Don't anyone shoot with finger tabs any more?

Short ATA makes it almost impossible to shoot with a glove.Use a release,good sight and good rest and you'll never look back.

Short fast bows are REALLY hard to shoot with fingers!

Shorter bows can also derail easier when using fingers. Very easy to torgue left or right and there goes the string off the cams or idler wheel.

It tends to pinch tomuch with fingers on new bows. Get a decent release and you'll be golden. :tup:

Also can happen when using a release and a yellow jacket lands on your face!

Hunter man T, I've shot fingers for 30 yrs, still do. I've got an older Hoyt Ultratec with an ata of 39". I used to shoot with a glove but now I shoot 3 fingers under the arrow which eliminates the influence of the finger pinch on the arrow. Shooting this way also allows me to shoot what is typically known as a release shooters rest, a 2 prong TM hunter. Saying all this, I would not shoot a bow with an ata shorter than this with fingers. :twocents: the Hot carbon defiant 34 is supposed to shoot like it's 37 inches at a but have not checked it out myself.

I shot fingers until around 2006. I figured not having a release meant one less thing to fail in the field. Then, I put a D-ring on my string just to try it and haven't looked back. And as mentioned, most of the new bows have such a short axel-to-axel, it's impossible use fingers. You can use an older bow but then you sacrifice the advances in speed and energy which have come along. By the way, it certainly does suck when you leave it on the dashboard as you leave your rig to go into that active stand by the wallow...or so I've heard.

Looks like I'm going to have to learn to shoot with a release.

If your serious about changing your style of shooting do it sooner than later.Get your bow and release your going to hunt with and put 1000,1500 shots through it.Good sight,drop away rest,rangefinder.I put my release on in the truck and leave it on all day.Shoot until all movement is second nature.If you do this when the time comes to take a real shot on an animal it will be automatic.

I live in Roy. Across from the firestation on 8 th ave s. I sell many releases. I also have a Geneis bow with a safe draw. You can shoot them all to see how you like it.. Call me

I completely hate the wrist style releases. I shot my old Martin Lynx Magnum for years with fingers. With my newer bow Mathews Legacy I use the Scotts Peanut release. I can put it in my pocket on a lanyard. Key word LANYARD. It is easy to loose. Any how my two cents from Lyle WA. :twocents:

I shot with a finger tab for 20+ years. Most of my deer hunting was from tree stands. When I moved out here from MN, I switched to a release and added about 10 yards to my effective range. I did miss one opportunity to kill a deer when I was fumbling around trying to get my release on the loop and watch the deer at the same time. Shooting with a release usually will give you crisper releases and you will be more accurate. :twocents:
