Title: Wood Stock Refinishing
Post by: jboettner on March 09, 2017, 08:10:37 PM
I am looking to get the stock on a Ruger 30-06 rifle refinished. Stock got pretty deeply scratched down toward the grip last fall, and scratched a bit of the checkering. Any recommendations for where to take it would be appreciated.

It's pretty easy to do it yourself. My old 06 Remington I got from my great grandpa had a chipped up flaking finish on it. A little chemical stripper, some steel wool cleaned it up and an oil rubbed finish made it better than ever. Sometimes you can steam scratches out of wood. If not a little stainable puddly or some a of the color match stuff would work. You could use a razor knife to shape the checkering.
