Title: Rufus woods
Post by: Martinhunter on March 15, 2017, 02:16:54 PM
Looking to take a trip over next week to get out of this darn rain. I've never been there but always wanted to try it out. Just curious if anyone can point me in a good direction as far as places to fish within the reservoir? I'm thinking about staying at the state park on the st. Joseph end and I'll have a 14' Alaskan with only a little 15 h.p motor so running up to the pins will be out of the question. Is the whole reservoir good fishing usually or is it consentrated all in a few select areas? Any info would be great, I'll be driving almost 300 miles to get there and kinda want to have a little intel on the place.

I've been out the last few days at the Chief Joe side. Few fish have been caught , no smoking action though. No luck last night, 2 caught the morning before.

I have only hit areas as far up as Brandt's landing. 10 people fishing the buoy marina yesterday afternoon. Didn't see any fish caught.

FWIW

Just telling you my experience the last couple days. I am shore fishing as well. Talked to the fish counter on Monday afternoon and he said it's been slow. The Friday before he counted 5 fish. Only one boat on the water Monday, I didn't see any last night. I'll be out again in just a minute, I'll let you know how I do.

I am one of the habitat bio's at Chief Joe. fishing has been slow down around the dam. I was on the reservoir today, went about 1/3 of the way up to a couple of my wildlife sites did not see any boats on the water. there were a handful of people shore fishing near the boom and at brandts. one of our park rangers was out talking with anglers and said no one had landed anything while he was out this afternoon.

I'll see if i can bump into the tribe's creel census guy this week and get you a report from him.

Fished again today from 12-4. Nada. The tribal fish counter said he hadn't seen a fish all day. Counted 5 total for the day yesterday with a 5lber being the biggest. He also said some boat firshermen had been there 2 days and had 1 bite. I'd say it's slow.

I tried to send you a PM where they are getting fish, but your inbox is full. I'm fishing it next Wednesday , then headed to Umitilla for the first walleye tournament of the year. Weather is warming up, lakes are thawing out. Its game on. No more cabin fever.
