Title: Anyone been out to potholes or Moses last couple days?
Post by: hunt_fish on April 05, 2017, 02:46:26 PM
I'm just wondering if anyone did decent or if it's dead? We're going on a trip up there Friday until Sunday and I'm just seeing if it's worthwhile or if we should head up to banks lake. My buddy and I went on our kayaks last Saturday at cascade park and I was only able to talk to one guy who fished the northern area of Moses and said he didn't get a bite for walleye.

We headed over to the potholes last Friday for the 4/1 opener for trout. Got a flat tire out of North Bend just before mp 45 exit. Couldn't find the lug wrench for over an hour. We then tried calling AARP but have you ever tried talking to someone from India with heavy traffic & semi's going by at 70+ only a few feet away?  :bash: Finally, got tire changed after my buddy found the little factory wrench in the bottom of the pile of gear we unloaded. We wanted to get the tire fixed so stopped in Eburg. Unfortunately it was the last day to get studded tires off & they were extremely busy. We checked out another tire store in Eburg & Les Schwab in Othello with no luck so we just went for it.  :bash:

It was windy, but we did fish on Sat at S. Hampton. I got skunked but had 3-4  good bites. My buddy (that had the 2 pole endorsement), caught 3 & one was a monster 21" spawner. The people that fished in boats did very well. We're thinking of giving it another try on 4/13 on the way over for turkey hunting. This time we'll have a decent lug wrench & spare.  :chuckle:

Banks would be the better choice. There not moving any water yet(a couple weeks late) Banks has a good population of eaters

Sounds like we'll probably try banks Saturday morning then. I think we'll try Lind coulee and maybe try for some trout in one of the seep lakes since it's supposed to blow hard and I'm sure it'll be a pain to troll in lind coulee Friday. My dad probably won't make it to this side until 10 or 11 that day. We've never fished banks before, what launch would be best to put us on spots for walleye? Would the south or north end be better? I'm trying to get my dad to gather some of the fishing mags that might have a map of banks for spring walleye but we'll see if he can find one 😂.

I would go to the north end. Anywhere around steamboat,  Barker canyon and north of there. Banks gets pretty wild in the wind

Some buddies of mine fished Teal lake last weekend and they each got their limit of nice trout I bet some were 16", chrome bright. With the cold water they should be great eaters. Largemouth are getting active if you can find water in the 50 degree range. No reports on the  smallmouth yet. Weather has been too windy to spend much time on the rocks around Goose Island.

Thanks for the update. We'll give the Teal lakes a try if we don't have luck at Hampton. We stopped at them but didn't fish on the opener & there was hardly anyone fishing them but it was also very windy. My buddy and his wife cooked the 21" spawner he caught on the opener & he said it was ok & he liked it. Looking forward to turkey hunting & fishing this week.

We tried banks Saturday at barker flats. Sloooow fishing, think I saw one net out. Fished 35-65 feet. We fished the seep lakes Friday and Saturday evenings for a hour or so. Caught some trout so at least we didn't get completely skunked for the trip.

Barker flats at Banks was slow this last weekend...we brought home 4 walleye, 16-18". Wind made fishing pretty tough to impossible at times.

Wrapped up our Seep Lakes portion of our fishing/turkey hunting trip. We fished Lower Hampton from 1-3 on Wed & limited on 12-14" fat rainbows. We didn't get to fish Teal Lake due to unfavorable winds either day. We Fished Lower Hampton again on Thursday. We got our limits both days. Here are a few pics. Me top & buddy second. Relocating Friday to Turkey camp 2017.
