Title: New WDFW system and points??
Post by: PolarBear on April 09, 2017, 11:22:51 AM
Just went to check on my points on the new WDFW site and I now have points for critters that I have never and would never put in for.  It says I have 12 points for sheep ewe, youth sheep, youth moose and antlerless moose.  Has this happened to any of the rest of you and what's the deal?

It's from when they split the categories up. If you had sheep points when they split it automatically gave you ewe points. Same with deer and elk etc.

I was unaware of that.  Thank you!  Now I need to check my daughter's points.

I'll bet they sell a lot more special permit applications this year with all these new found points sitting out there that people didn't know they had.

Unfortunately they are points for stuff that I will never use.

iii. An applicant's accumulated point totals, immediately prior to sales of the 2010 permit applications, will be replicated across all categories for that species. The point replication will only occur in 2010, during the transition from single species categories to multiple categories of the same species. Applicants for any new category added in the future will begin with the point awarded at the time of the initial application purchase.

Which is exactly why this move to allocate points across the board was the dumbest thing Dave Ware ever came up with.  The cow elk and moose hunters got so completely screwed in this it's not even funny.

Very true. It's actually much harder to draw an antlerless moose permit than an "any moose" permit now. There were 35 antlerless permits for 10,896 applications last year (1 in 311), while there were 107 "any moose" permits for 24,675 applications (1 in 230).
