Recently saw a Facebook post from Mason/Olson resort in area 5 saying the limit this year is 2 fish combined pink/king/silvers. No +2 additional pinks this year I guess. At least we can harvest silvers this year.
-
The trouble is it is open for silvers when few will be there and if they are they will be those really small ones.......good news is the hatchery chinook are the same as they have been and they didn't lower the limit to one as I was dreading they might.......should be humpies there though if you keep them.......Good Luck.......Les

Probably gonna have to battle through the pinks to try and get a king or silver.

Unfortunately the seasons in the Strait aren't that great for this summer but strangely improve further in to Puget Sound.
-
I mean if it's July 1 to August 15th in Areas 5 and 6 again for kings, then nothing has changed there and it should be on par with the last couple of seasons (pretty good fishing). The difference would be what's going on with silvers and I guess we'll see what they've decided to do there. The humpies are projected to have really low returns this year so fighting through them to target the more desirable species won't be as big of a deal. Don't give me wrong, the pinks are great for fertilizing watersheds when they die and they're awesome fish for little kids and new fishermen to fight, but they are quite a nuisance when I'm trying to get my gear to the bottom for kings.

:yeah:

I think its humorous that the projected run for humpies is so low but the state has nothing to do with managing them. Look at last year, they projected one of the worse coho returns in years and what happened. The coho came back by the masses and they where big. If they cant project runs for fish they try and manage how can they project numbers for fish they don't manage. Now without the two additional humpies bonus, you will see a bunch of dead floating humpies because no one is going to keep those for their two fish limit. Love this state.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing, nobody is going to Sekiu and keeping two pinks.
-
Humpies man... stinky, nasty, annoying, yet necessary fish. Can always tell you have one on when they do that spazoid headshake. Ok, if processed and cooked right, they're not horrible but I try my best to avoid them at all costs (easier said than done). They seem to always come to the surface spouting blood :bash: but I guess if you need crab bait or an easy meal on a bad day of fishing then whatever :dunno: You guys are right though. No one is driving all the way out to Sekiu to keep pinks when there are kings or silvers to be had.

If you bleed and ice humpies right away they aren't bad and are actually really good for canning. But we do prefer kings and coho.

Thursday's Springers out of Cathlamet. Had to fight a damn seal for the big one, took about 20 minutes to get it to turn loose of the fish!

Nice Kings Encore280
-
Nice fish eh!

WDFW is making it difficult for the sportsman. They have to implement more restrictions every year. I can predict an alternate salmon season in the near future.
-
Well they can't very well stop the harvest all together.

IMO, they are not "humpies" until they hit freshwater. Out of the salt, at least here in the islands, they are Pinks and taste just fine and are nice and firm. It sucks not allowing any extra Pinks, even living here it makes it harder to justify a 35 mile round trip day with the likely harvest of only two small fish. I was hoping to can a crapload of pinks this year. :(

Lokidog...head a bit further north, pick up a CN license and intercept those Fraser fish...big Springs and the Fraser is expected to get back 7-20 million pinks (target of 8 million but those Canucks like to keep everyone guessing...)

We've been thinking about this, and would be nice to land some Rockfish as well.
