I hunted this tag hard for 6 days and came up empty. What a tough hunt, the few people that I talked to were pretty discouraged as well. I can't wait to see the harvest statistics to see if anyone got a deer. When they gave out the tag 2 years ago it was 0 for 10.
Why is it tough:
1. The tag is Oct 1st so the island has already been pressured from the dove hunters so the bigger bucks stay in the corn, the cotton woods, and by the end a lot are on the no hunting section of the island.
2. Lots of eyes- There are a ton of does that can mess up your hunt. I had 2 of my 3 opportunities ruined by does that are everywhere.
3. Small area- With 10 tags on the island it was hard not to run in to other hunters. The 3rd opportunity I had was ruined by a hunter walking with the wind at his back in the spot I was stalking.
4. No enforcement of the Rules- On the opening day of the hunt there were duck hunters running around the island scouting for ducks even though the rules say you are supposed to stay on the roads unless you are hunting.

Never said the deer were not there. Was just saying it is a tough hunt and was curious if any one tagged out. 0 for 10 in 2014 shows that and I would guess the harvest percentage is close to that last year. You make it sound like there is a good chance at a 170+ they may be there but good luck finding one where you can get a chance at it with a bow. The bigger bucks I saw were on the no hunting and they stayed there.
