Title: Drano report
Post by: castie2504 on April 24, 2017, 03:15:13 PM
Went down to Drano yesterday just to get out of the house and test the waters. Numbers over the dam aren't there and I didn't anticipate catching a springer. I arrived at 515 and put the boat in the water, stayed until 4. Counted 15 boats total for the day  and 2-3 fishermen per boat. Most were using herring behind a flasher also saw a couple prawn spinners and super bait. The boats were spread pretty evenly across the lake, although the "bowl" had 5-7 boats fishing it at any given time. Finally, at around 1:30-2 I saw and heard the first net fly. Looked like a little bigger than average fish but the gentleman lost it about 15 feet from the boat. That was the only action of the day. Again, numbers over the dam are low so unless the you really have to scratch that itch, it's not worth traveling to. Hopefully over the next two weeks the fish will pour over the dam and give everyone a shot at catching one.

Dang! I hate getting left behind. You must be their good luck charm! I hear there are always gentleman bets going on in that boat too! Hahaha

So we went down to drano Saturday. We thought we were doing it right but no fish to confirm. We were pulling spinners and superbaits. We saw a few fish being pulled out at the mouth or toilet bowl area. I think they were pulling prawn spinners. Does anybody have some advise on depth and what is successful  for these springers  :dunno: thanks.

I would think your skunking has a lot more to do with the low fish numbers over the dam than your methods. Its hard to catch what is barely there. I'd wait until the dam numbers jump up to 1k a day or more for atleast a week then try again. The fish are held up below Bonneville and will begin to surge over the dam at any time now.

We were there Friday and Saturday and touched nothing .. Saw 4 fish each day caught . One next to us was caught on a flatlined orange hotshot. I'd say atleast 70% of the boats were pulling pro troll flashers. Saw lots of mag lips too. We ran a herring and short bus flasher , another rod with macks flash lite and prawn spinner and a flatlined Maglip wrapped in sardine . Counts hopefully will jump up this week.

My buddy fished the mouth of the Wind yesterday and they picked up one springer.  He said it was fairly slow for them.  They saw a handful of fish caught that they saw.  They were also working the deadline.

Was at Drano all weekend .. Hooked and landed 1 Friday. Lost 3 Saturday and nothing Sunday , but only fished 3 hours . Lotta fish caught in bowl. Most fish being caught were on Leo flashers and prawn spinners.. I did not have any Leo's in the boat .
