Title: Chuck Shoot 27/28 Apr 2017 South Central - 17 Hornet CZ 527s
Post by: JDHasty on April 29, 2017, 08:18:09 AM
I had to come home to watch Bridget sing at the Tacoma Rainiers game last night, but am headed back over w/the kids.  Will tell about the shoot when I get back.  The ones that point up sent the target up to chuck heaven.  We only shot a couple hours on the 28th.

It looks like I killed 92 chucks for 192 shots taken @ chucks (2 sighters taken).  All my shooting was at ~85 - 240 yards in 12-15 mph crosswinds and I was using a Harris S25 bipod all the way up and sitting, which is far less stable than prone... but my neck wasn't having any of that prone action last week.

My buddies probably killed 75 each.

20 gr Zmaz over 12.2 gr of Accurate 1680 & Rem 7 1/2.  We were all three shooting CZ 527 American rifles which so far are not proving to be as accurate as Bridget's 17 Hornet Contender Carbine that I shot last year.

I have a spare new take off Varmint weight barrel and my buddy has a HS Precision Kevlar stock off a 223 Kevlar Varmint that he is sending my way, so I think I am going to tear my rifle apart after this season and reconfigure it into a heavier configuration.

I'm not seeing bullet impact consistently @ 20 power either, like I was last year.

Here is something great:  These two photos were taken from ~ 150 yards away using our new Nikon P900 shooting it offhand.  I got it for Bridget and I to use for wildlife shots.  I will post some photos of blackbirds in the photo section later.

Looks like a great time!! Looks like a good way for your hunting buddy there to spend the first little bit of his retirement!!! Great man and I know he is having a blast.
Love following your spring time posts, talking about your "management" as you hunt those critters. Educational for sure
