Post by: sagerat on May 05, 2017, 03:01:31 PM: I'm looking at the November and December bull tags. Can you get it done on the Boise tree farm? Any thoughts appreciated.

Yes, there are some very nice bulls that come out of there.

Fun hunt though for sure. Definitely a unique elk hunt in this state or anywhere really.

Post by: huntnnw on May 05, 2017, 04:05:33 PM: I drew a muzzy bull tag there in 2007 and I saw 30-50 bulls a day scouting and never saw a cow elk scouting or hunting . The joke with the locals and with the bio is the elk are gay. I saw 15 bulls together on sept 10. Maybe it's changed with the cows I don't know. Better be on the permission before applying

Post by: Ridgerunner on May 05, 2017, 04:08:14 PM: I was warned about the lack of cows before my hunt as well, that being said I ended up seeing over 50 cows in the few days I was there, I don't think that is the norm though for that hunt.

I think that was in part that they do allow cow hunters and the guy who had the tag had a truck load of guys pushing the trees and had them pretty pressured up the later tags probably did better.

Because only the tag holder had a weapon I'm guessing.

First bull tag in November. Still lots of big yellow leaves on the trees.

:yeah:

Like 4 or 5 guys push the trees hunter sat on the road and was the only one with a gun. This was just before the tag opened when we went to scout.

What tag did they have? The quality tags are not that good because the trees have the leaves on and you can't see down the rows very far.

The new owners are not planning on using the land for trees. As the mature trees are being harvested, new trees are not being planted. This is just what I have heard. I know they are still allowing hunting this year and yes, you do have to get permission before you apply or you will be out of luck.

They do have cow hunts in the tree farm or at least they did in 2015.

I also heard that it has been sold and will be circles and no more trees. My guess is the Nov. and Dec. tags would be gone once the trees are gone because they are there because of the damage the elk do to the trees.

When you google it only the Boardman farm comes up when talking about being sold.
