Just starting thread
This year it will be me,the wife, dad, and uncle. Kids will come up later in week, hopping 5yr old will be with me while in blind.
Spent last weekend with kids getting barrels ready. Handed them a spray can and let them go at it.

What's you all's opinion on this shaker barrel? Hoppen to reduce the crows intake.
-
The kid in the bear bait barrel lol. :chuckle: way to pass on the lifestyle
-
I like it!! I have one bait right now getting hit by 12 to 15 crows a day, but they are only picking up the scrapes the bears are leaving behind, they are not going into the barrel.
-
Love the pics...
Good Luck!

Half way to camp where we will start setting baits. Stopped for breakfast . Ready for a long weekend

Well, was a long weekend but mostly successful
Friday we set my uncles bait, wasn't bad cause it was my spot from last year. Meet up with another forum member and talked, he brought me some gas. After that went to see how far up Mt we could get. Not close enough, snow stopped us. That sucked.
Saturday I went for a early walk from camp and walked up behind a wolf. That was cool but also not what a bear hunter wants to see
Spent day looking for a spot for dad. Found a killer spot, but turned out it had a tree stand close by. Looked like it was a few years old. We left that spot alone. Think we found a good spot for him.
Sunday I knew where we were going, but it was .6 miles from trail head. Long day, but think I found a good spot. We will find out in 2 weeks

Have a safe trip and a great hunt!!!
-
I'll be interested to see how it goes. I've never had much luck in June and July with baits. I figure once the elk calves start dropping the first week of June is when the bait is done.
-
I still have them hammering my baits, my problem is none have any decent hair left. I'm hoping for him down in that unit the hides are still good.
-
Well, no bear got brought home.
Dads bait did good, until they shot a chocolate color bear off it and we couldn't find it. Hate that. Even has another forum member bring in hounds, but by then scent was to warm. Unfortunately that's the way it goes sometimes.
My bait had bears, but there was never a pattern. Pics were are over, from 2:am to 9:am , 1: and 5:. And anywhere from 5:30-10:pm. The one I wanted came in at 8:47pm, that was within hours but just to dark for me to take the shot.
Uncles bait did ok. Had a pair coming in but then started coming in at night , then not at all. He had a little guy a few evenings the last couple of nights.
Saw cool country, enjoyed the time spent just learning. It was my second year baiting, so lots of " will do this next year" of " won't do that again". Saw deer fawns and elk. Moose and turkey. Can't wait till next year. Enjoyed my kids being there. Now back to work
