Wife got here Bear down. Waited for the weather to warm up. This last Saturday seemed like a good day to head out. We got out there around 4:30pm. Started off seeing elk and grouse. Felt good to be up there. The greens where we hunt weren't really out yet, so I was having my doubts. Wasn't more then couple mins on the road where we see all the spring sign that we spot a bear 75 yards sunning himself and eating grass. He didn't give her a shot do to all the alders. He then walks away into the thick, step and dark woods. We kept driving and gave him about 30 mins to hopefully return to feeding. We got back to where he was and nothing but green grass and a dark looking shadow. 100 yards away the shadows can play tricks on the mind. I brought up the binos and sure enough. That shadow was nothing more then a bear. It was 7:30pm and He didn't even mind us watching him. She had no shot do to him giving her his backside. The wife got a good rest and waited. Couple mins later he turns broadside and about the time I say there is your shot, She let the .243 bark. I see steam come out of the bear and hes gone. We sat and listened to him break every log in his path. After letting out two moans, we went in looking for him. No blood trial but the ground was tore up. 60 yards away we was bedded down in a creek. This is her first bear and her third year hunting. Shot placement is what matters. Couldn't be more proud of her.

Nice job!! Been up a few times myself but no bears seen yet.

Has anyone heard of or seen anymore bear movement up there? I've been seen scraps and some scat but still haven't seen a bear.

I know of one that was killed Saturday

Yea that was the only one I've heard of too but was curious if anyone was having any other bear sightings or Has it been just the one.

Hopefully I'll be up a bunch this weekend.

I ran into Cylde last night when I was headed in. He said there have been 5 harvest cards filled out so far.
-
That's great to hear. I've found an area filled with scat and peels. I hope to go sit on it this evening and get lucky. Good luck to everyone

5 bears as of Saturday afternoon has been taken out of Hancock so far.
-
5 is one more than last year reported.So.... a good year for there, right? :dunno:
seems way low for 150 tags tho.. IMHO :dunno:
Congrats to the wife !

I would like that tag if I could hunt the bridge gate side

you can only hunt south side. But I've seen equal amount of bears on both
-
Great story and a great hunt.
-
I agree it would be nice to hunt the bridge gate. I'm hunting my butt off and haven't seen a bear yet. But it's not over yet.

My buddy was walking super grassy roads on the bridge gate side finding tons of peels ran into two one morning, find the fresh peels. He doesn't have a tag which is why he was on the bridge side

find the steep ridges with water below, look for all the things you hate, devils clubs, salmon berries..and skeeters..one thing I have found taking guys up there is a greater percentage of them are afraid of bears and the areas they will hang in..The ridges will get used often...The south side is loaded with bears
-
You think their still hanging low or moving up higher now? Haven't found good peels in awhile.
-
Only have been able to get over twice this season, the only bear ive seen was in thick stuff and higher.

camp 7 elevation and a bit higher
-
Good job you two.
-
I've been down low 600 and 6000 line. An not seeing much scat anymore or fresh peels. All stuff I found weeks ago.
-
I've been hitting it intermittently the last few weeks and quite a bit this past weekend. Walking several roads covered in grass with the right sized trees. Not seeing hardly any fresh sign.
-
Nice job.

I scouting and saw my first bear today up at Hancock. A was driving coming around the corner and thought I saw something bolt into the brush up ahead. Wasn't sure if it was anything. Well I get up to the spot were I believe I saw something and there was a couple fresh peels. So I got out and walked up the road then I heard something down in the brush. I seen up ahead there was a little opening. Sure enough a bear walks though this little opening. He wasn't running but was walking fast. After scouting for the last five straight weekends I was really cool to finally see one. Even though it was only about two seconds.
