They are looking for a fully suppressed machine gun using polymer cases ammo. The similar reach to a 50 and the weight of the current 7.62 for use in special forces and marine core. Same ammo They want to use in a sniper rifle.

Sweet!
Lighter then the M240, with the pop of the Ma deuce, to reach out and touch someone, LOL

Reducing the weapon weight by 3 pounds means the soldiers/marines can carry 10 pounds of something new.

This reminds me of another previous post of mine with the military looking to replace the 556 round possibly with the 6.5 Grande to get near 308 performance out of rebuilt AR platform rifles. The problem with that is the huge Investments in pre staged ammo and agreements with NATO countries for interchangeable supplies. There are Billions or rounds stockpiled overseas and at home.
This may have a chance since its seems to be more spec ops oriented where supply lines are much shorter and fight durations are less of an issue.
