:yeah:
Seriously, I put so little stake in the outcome I really can't remember. It was either points, or some of the wetside hunts- I know that for sure.
-
I said screw it and changed from my normal muzzy tag to rifle. Switched units and did Dayton 1 tucannon 2, 22 points.
-
Observatory,Peaches archery. 2 man group x 6 points.
-
Going to Idaho this year so put in for points, my son and I now have 12 points each. Hope to put in as party next year as a group and just use one of our points to get Peaches or something. Then we can get drawn a couple times in Less time. I hope . :)

If you draw as a group everyone in the group goes back to zero.

Thats not how it works putting in a party will use both your points. Putting in as a group hurts your odd because you are one application and there is one less tag you can draw. If there is one tag left you cant draw it because there are 2 of you.
-
I drew quality last year, so hoping not to draw it again lol. It was fun, but I prefer my Oregon hunt and don't want to screw that up. At 13 pts for quality deer which is the one I want to draw.
-
Goose Prairie Muzzle w/5 points
-
Peaches archery.
-
Nooksack with 1 come on, come on!
-
Points......as often happens I couldn't fully commit to the time if I were to draw so I put in for points and will hunt west side muzzy this year. If/when I finally draw a quality elk tag I want to be able to give it the time it deserves in scouting and planning to make it a OIL experience
-
A west side rifle tag with a September season.
I'm feeling lucky this year. :IBCOOL:
-
Peaches, Muzzy, 17 points,,,come on baby..
-
This might be my last year with a rifle. My buddies talked me into buying a bow so as long as I can dial in my groups I will be hunting in the heat next year.

Good luck! They are fun tags to have

That would be a great tag to have. I almost went that route but my dad wanted to go muzzy this year. I didn't want to risk us both drawing
-
Mudflow Rifle. Have spent lots of time in the area over the years and would love to hunt elk down there once.
-
Always done Rifle, well this Year I'm changing it up and trying Muzzy

I used to do the same but don't anymore. With the low odds that are only getting worse every year, I believe in applying every season unless there was something that 100% held me away from a hunt if drawn. Since it is most likely a "once in a lifetime" hunt I would treat it accordingly and change any plans to make it work. :twocents:
-
My kids in for peaches but I have a sleeper unit in mind. :chuckle:
-
Dayton for sure, probably Peaches. In all reality, I just click a few that would be great and then remember it doesn't really matter what I chose with 6 points.

I think it does. I drew Dayton Muzzy with 7! First and only time I ever put in for an eastside tag.
Few years before that drew Late Swakane rifle with 3.

When the kids aren't so little that might be an option. My 2 olders are getting to the age where I can take them hunting (Thing 1 passed Hunter Safety just before she turned 10 though last year at 12 was the first time I actually took her hunting), but the 2 youngers are only 4 and 5. It'll be a bit before they're old enough to let me get away for a Quality hunt.

Sounds like me and Bobcat put in for the same one!

Buddy and I did Wenaha at 60 last year - good times. 44 miles in 4 days packout when our horse packer wasnt available.
-
I'll probably bring horses if I get lucky and draw, if I don't want to mess with bringing horses I'll call Dave Waldron.
-
I don't remember but the results will be the same
Colockum and :yeah:
-
All the elk are dead in ew. Didn't bother putting in this year. The winter was soooo bad!!! Wasn't worth 13 bucks for an application. :chuckle:
-

-

Points for me this year. Got another little guy due in a few weeks so my woods time will be limited this year.
-
Nooksack muzzy 11 points. Fingers crossed
-
Points.
I submitted for Moose, Master Hunter, Second Deer, Quality Deer and w/three kids, two under four, if I draw Q Elk I know that I have taken away a chance for someone who can make the time this year to do it right. I want the points in the future when I can make use of the hunt if I get drawn. I submitted sheep ad goat for points too.
I submitted a "hail Mary' for deer in the Desert Unit Modern and should I draw I do have 300 hours of Vacation leave on the books and will burn 200 of it if need be it for that. And should that happen it will be a couple years before I submit for anything but points for hunts that I have to dedicate a lot of time into preparing for before the Season opens and then move there and live in the RV for two or three weeks during the Season.
If/when I draw a coveted tag I will cash in everything else that year and just shoot first the couple deer I see (I can do that in one morning) for our brats , Italian sausage and ground meat and a few birds and do my absolute best to make the most of it by just concentrating on that one tag.
-
I also put in for West side rifle tag with a September season.....
-
Nooksack with muzzle loader. We'll see. :dunno:
-
Haha I put in for "none yuh"
-
Where we wanted to put in for quality elk, did not have enough permits for the group.
So, we had to settle for another area.
-
I don't remember but the results will be the same
:yeah:
Only my second year applying so I have no hope. I'm pretty sure I applied for Bethel or Rimrock because they're close.
-
bone head.. I put in for the same place.. :o
-
I went with westside and have 11 points on a tag that had average points of 8 last year. First time I've truly had high hopes for any application

Just a FYI, the average points category is for applicants in that hunt choice, not average points to draw that tag.

Actually I don't think that's right.
I think it's the average points of the people who drew the previous year...

You have a better than average chance - so instead of a 1:100 chance maybe you have a one in 30 chance. But hey its somethin right ? :)
-
1st choice peaches Ridge muzzleloader
2nd choice peaches Ridge archery
""BULL"":White River muzzleloader.
Ghost pointed everything else

Yes, that's correct. It's the average of those who drew that permit. But it's pretty much a meaningless number. Especially when there are very few permits for a particular hunt.
Just as an example look at the Mudflow quality permit. 5 permits and it shows a total of 725 applications in 2016 and an average of 7 points of those who drew the permit.
But you look at the numbers and see that there were 65 applications with 7 points. None of them drew. 44 applications with 8 points- none drew. 25 applications with 9 points- none drew. 26 applications with 10 points- 1 drew. 66 applications that had from 11 to 20 points and only one of those drew, one with 15 points.
All I'm saying is definitely don't look at the average points and think that just because you have that many, or more, that you have a good chance of drawing.

Yep. But, with something the youth elk tag I put my daughter in for, last year there were 72 applicants for 10 tags, and average to draw was 2.7 points. IIRC 16 applicants drew a different tag. Since my daughter will have 4 points in the draw this year, I'd say that gives her decent odds. Far from guaranteed of course, but not bad. Last year someone with 6 points failed to draw that tag. Can't be sure if that person drew another tag though. One of the 2 with 5 points failed to draw it, as did 3 out the 4 with 4 points. Again, can't know if any of them drew a different tag. But, that's still better odds than the 1 out of 35 with a single point that actually drew, or the 4 out of 25 with 2 points that succeeded in drawing.
Ultimately, while I'd love it if she draws that tag, if she doesn't I won't be completely heartbroken if she doesn't get it. She just 13, and physically I think it might be a good thing if it takes an extra year for her to draw.

why is it when I look at the point spread for the white River muzzle loader "bull" tag it says ther were 7 tags given out but I only count 5? did I miss somthing?

I see 6 applications were selected, and 7 applicants, meaning one of the applications was for two people who applied as a group.
