If any of you cats on the forum drew Mudflow/Quality Elk and are not familiar with the area, touch base with me if you'd like. I can share a bit of information that I learned last year from scouting/hunting there. There is also another cat on HuntWA that possesses a ton of info on that area but I won't offer him up for assistance without him knowing (he may chime in at some point).

My son drew the youth cow tag for mud flow this season, any and all info would be great. should or do i need to buy a weyerhaeuser pass?
Thanks for any info
-
No, you shouldn't need a WH permit. Send me an email at rory@wapititalk.com and we'll get some commo going. Congrats to your son for pulling that tag! RJ

My son (16 years old) and his hunting partner, (she is 18 years old) both drew the quality bull rifle tag. We have hunted the unit one time when my nephew drew the youth bull tag.
-
PM me I know a little about the unit. Congrats on the tag
-
The daughter drew the cow tag last year. Spent a lot of time up there before the season. Took us 4 days but she was successful. For the cow tag that's early, most of the animals are still up high by the boundary. If you need any more info muddy ask!

Pretty excited for my 11yo son, he drew a youth mudflow cow tag this year.
-
Dad drew a quality bull tag for that area and I've been researching pretty much everyday-every minute.. My dad has been driving up there every 3rd day however it has been tough to locate a decent bull so far :/ any help is very much appreciative :) it took him 19-21 years to draw this permit lol

Quality For Modern btw

I just wanted to say thank you for the assistance offered on this forum. Big shout out to WapitiTalk1 and redi for all the information given to help make this a successful hunt for thes two young hunters. I never had a chance to meet these two in person but I wouldn’t mind, to talk hunting and to share a cold one. Thank again, Kevin

Wow very cool way to go.. my son is 11and I will be putting him in for this tag.. hope he draws before he gets too old. I hope to have the wealth of knowledge here if he gets the tag.. very good karma

Very glad to hear they were both successful on awesome bulls. Thank you for sharing their success. Reminds me of my daughters hunt and all the great people wo helped make it happen. Congrats.
-
beautiful looking animals, congrats!! curious if any had hoof rot, they look pretty damn healthy to me?
-
The elk my son shot did have hoof rot on one hoof, but not terrible. The other elk did not have any at all. Most of the elk we saw did not have noticeable hoof rot. We did defiantly see some that did have it. Very hard to watch those animals try to get around, almost make you hurt watching them.

yes, it’s sickening. I’m glad you didn’t see a lot with it, maybe somehow it’s slowing down.
-
I don't think it's slowing down. Just that elk numbers are say down from a few years ago so it's just less noticeable in some areas!
