Never hunted it but I've seen some great deer out there!

Most of it is private land and most of the deer have names. That said, there are some pretty crazy blacktail on Vashon.
If you do kill one, be sure to strap it onto the hood for the ferry ride home...

Bring lots of tissues for the polite anti's, and earplugs for the ones who will be "wailing and gnashing their teeth".

Yea, there are some great deer. Finding the land to hunt is very difficult.
If you find the land to hunt, here are some hints.
1. Wear T shirt or polo shirt with blue jeans, or shorts. DO NOT WEAR YOUR CAMO.
2. Hide your bow. Do not put it in something that is recognized by anti hunters. Use a sheet or something like that.
3. Change into hunting cloths and pull your bow out where no one can see.
4. Get to hunting... Make sure the deer dies out of site.
5. Do the field dressing and bag it in private.
6. Hide deer in your rig for the ferry ride.
YOU will be able to hunt that property for a very long time. Once people find out you are hunting that property, people, neighbors will contact the land owner and verbally show their opinion. You will be done hunting that property.

You're right on somethings but NOT others I've got friends and family on the island definitely do your homework and don't be that guy with your harvest wide open for everyone to see but wear your normal hunting clothing ( sticker bushes are bad there ) . A lot of folks on the island have big problems with the deer and coyotes and using a bow is a big plus with them just because they worry about bullet trajectory. Put mineral blocks out preseason when you get some property to hunt . Look on Murray island

They are currently taking comments on Island Center Forest Park. We have taken decent blackmails off that park property.

If you want access in the future, you better show up or lose this opportunity. I have private access on lslands all over the south sound, but still consider Island Center Forest worthwhile to hunt some days. I am not going to walk you through it here but if I meet you out there I will give you some good advice on how to work it.
The people commenting on island residents are half full of it and half right on what attitudes are. One thing that is for sure and for certain though is that w/o solid references and a history of having hunted for a long time w/o any nonsense you will have a very slim chance of getting on any private land.
Vashon/Murray Land Trust has been buying up land all over the islands that many people have had access on and none of that land is now available.

Well here's the place you can hunt for sure, at least if King County approves the hunts for the next five years.

You'd be surprised how many vashonites hate those deer. They are a nuisance. If you were seen in the ferry dock with a deer strapped to your roof someone might buy you a kambucha or invite you to hunt their property next.
As far as tips go, find the biggest prettiest garden and ask for permission to kill those pesky deer that keep ripping up the roses. Done deal after that, might as well punch your tag as soon as they say yes.

:yeah: If you get access, treat it like gold and reward the land owners because the minute their neighbors find out, they will be getting an earful. Do everything possible to make sure nobody knows what you're doing, regardless of the fact that it is completely legal.

Island hunting is truely the lovers and the haters of deer. One of the challenges is neighbor conflict and getting in the middle of those who hate each other. I have access on a chunk of property that holds some very nice bucks at times. The owner hate the deer and his neighbors, who see the deer as "lovely forest pets".

A friend of mine has gained access on some property there . This is a buck that showed up on his camera recently .
-
Nice buck.

I am VERY lucky to have access to great private land on Vashon/Maury Is.
There are a lot of bucks around but even then they are not as easy to get as everyone thinks, still wild deer...

Nice!

That's a great blacktail. I don't think there is such thing as a mature blacktail buck that's easy to hunt.
