Title: Hunting buddy Mike drew Watershed bull
Post by: Rufous on June 16, 2017, 07:05:22 AM: I got a text yesterday that my buddy Mike drew Watershed bull elk tag, modern firearm. He drew solo. Can he take a friend in to help? He lives in Walla Walla and generally knows the area. I am bummed that I am now living in Michigan and likely will not be able to accompany him.

Post by: Henrydog on June 16, 2017, 07:18:14 AM: Yup I believe you can take 1 non hunting (no weapon) person with you in the watershed. When I was at EWU 25 years ago a guy in one of my classes got the bull tag and at that time he could take a 1 non hunter

No pre-season entry, go in in the morning and out at night, you are allowed one person to accompany you, two more can go in to help retrieve your animal. There are no commercial outfitters licensed to guide or pack out in the unit. The packet you get from Walla Walla spells it all out in less than one page. The forest service guy patrolling the area is very helpful with information.

Nearly pristine land to hunt, few trails and no roads. A perfect hunt to get away from the masses and truly earn a trophy on your own. .

Get in the best shape one can for that hunt. I had to skip my hunt two years ago because my knee was all messed up. Was lucky to be able to walk a level gravel road let alone step off the shoulder.

If you dump one at the bottom of Mill Creek, do you pack what you can with your +1 and then get help or can the cavalry come and meet you? Thanks...

Anyone who is part of your cavalry must be with you, fella got popped a couple years ago for having his "sherpas" in there without him to retrieve his bull. Like Jayfire said, listen to the boundary agents...Pack out what you can with your plus one and then bring in the muscle. Just my two cents, or depending where you dump in, get some ponys and pack it out the bottom if possible. Just be aware, where you are or will be, someone will be watching you. Good luck

Just don't get caught anyway, and like was said, no, you can't send in your packers without you.
