won a traditions vortex northwest magnum but can't find much on info to use to try and start shooting it an help would be appeciated

I just bought one off BugleBuster. Can't wait to shoot it. Amazing how light it is.

I have the same muzzleloader, have had it it for a couple years but haven't shot it, but that's soon to change. I just picked up some musket caps from the muzzleloader shop and will be taking it out in the next couple of weeks to sight it in. The only thing I didn't care for was the fiber optic sights- I bought a peep sight to replace the rear sight.

There is a new set out for the Traditions. I think it's built by Williams. It's packaged by Traditions. Only place I've seen one was at Swains in Port Angeles. Comes with a fiber optic front sight and the set was around $45.00 if I remember right.

Williams peep sights are amazing. If your gun is tapped for scope base you can mount it back real far opening your sight radius. You can also buy the ace in the hole scope base it has the dove tail and peep on the back. If plan to hunt states that allow scope or want to use it during modern it gives you options. It was my first accessory purchase based on recommendations I'd read.

Got mine today.30 in barrel,ul .50. W
hat would you say max charge should be on this?I will be starting at 80 grains.

Careful about max charge say 150 cause you could exceed that with much less of some other powders. Not all powders the guy will sell you will be as gental as real black powder. You might find it will shoot as fast and hard with less and the other good side effect is it could shoot a better pattern with a trimmer pack of powder. Location location location
I am dialed in pretty good with 30 grains less than rated 150 max
All your other components make a difference too. Bullet WEIGHT and primer TYPE. I don't know if they put that in the fine print but it should be there
If you use a chronograph you will know when adding powder stops to help much

agree completely, :yeah: will start low at 80 grains hope to get magic spot well before 150 just didnt know where is to high.150 pretty hot.

They only way you will know is to actually shoot over a chronograph. Your best accuracy may come at max but probably at a lot less. IMO...if the gun is rated at 150 it can handle a lot more. BH209 has a definite sharp pressure curve and higher velocity, but 3F is very very close in velocity with less blow back through nipple. Accuracy is equal but the BH209 has a fine red one difference better. At least in my Bighorn with #11 nipple.

max would vary with bullet weight, primer and powder type. Usually can start low and keep adding a little powder but at some point, the bullet won't really go any faster and the recoil keeps going up.
