Title: Cowiche Quality Rifle/Muzzy tag holders, current and past
Post by: 7mmfan on July 06, 2017, 08:37:53 AM
I'm hoping to chat with anyone on here that has had one of these tags in the past few years. I'd like to just get a general sense of how your hunt went. Because of how busy, and accessible this unit is, feel free to PM me.

It does seem awful quiet. I guess the pool of past and current tag holders is pretty small.  If they're anything like me, they are probably just trying avoid the inherent drama that comes with these tags.   :chuckle:

Have not had that tag but have been in the area during September and have rifle hunted the Cowiche unit.

So really hoping to glean from others what their experience has been the last week of September, first week of October, as far as visibility of animals, and how vocal animals were. I'm not looking for your spot (although I won't turn down intel :chuckle: ), but more to help me set my expectations on how I'm going to set my hunt up.

I know I could go down in the sage brush and find a bull and shoot it, but that's not really what I'm hoping to do. I've never had the opportunity to hunt elk in the rut, so I'm really looking forward to the opportunity of calling animals.

I too would like to pick anyone's brain on this tag.  I drew the muzzy tag and grew up in the area but have never hunted it in late Sept.

I drew the Muzzy Quality bull too. I’ve hunted bull and cow elk up there for years. I’ve taken a spike and 2 cows with a muzzleloader up there. This will be my first big bull draw in Washington. 12 years to draw the tag and I plan to be up there the entire season. At least we will be the first to try the 209 primers out. I see some really big bulls every year, but the area we hunt is really nasty, steep, and I question myself every time I hike into it. I had one huge 7 point bruiser about run me over two years ago. Caused my heart to blow thru my chest and about s@& myself. One cow I shot was with one monster bull and about 24 other cows. I Would like to learn more about about these sage brush bruisers that come from cowiche. A google search of bull elk in cowiche will show people smiling with their sagebrush bruiser.  Where are the sage brush bulls?  Maybe a few of us can get together to go do some scouting. Really look forward to this hunt. Someone from this forum has already reached out to me offering assistance.
