I'm looking for reading material pertaining to hunting big game that is applicable to Washington state. Any good books out there or is this website enough?
Thanks guys! :IBCOOL:

There's an old book Art of Successful Deer Hunting that is mostly western Oregon timber country. Some useful info there.

I like Cameron Hanes' book on backcountry bow hunting. He started hunting in Oregon Wilderness areas. Robby Denning's book on mule deer is great - you will learn about mike deer behavior that is applicable to Washington, but I don't think he mentions Washington. David Long and Mike Eastman also have good mule deer books.

Hunting Black-Tailed Deer, Louis Terkla. I like this help for black tail, old school advice is hard to beat.

contact your local library. they can go to the state library and see if they have the books you want. think u can borrow them for about 2 weeks. mike w

Whenever this question gets asked I always respond that you will learn as much or more about hunting by reading books about hunters and hunting but that aren't how-to books (they have their place). A book like Stewart Edward White's The Long Rifle was as useful to me as Boyd's Blacktail Trophy Tactics (a good book).
That said, here is a list of books, not all strictly hunting related, that have taught me something about hunting:
A Sand County Almanac by Aldo Leopold
The Long Rifle by Stewart Edward White
Blacktail Trophy Tactics by Boyd Iverson
Trophy Blacktails by Scott Haugen
The Big Sky by A.B. Guthrie
Mountain Man by Vardis Fisher
The Complete Guide to Hunting, Butchering and Cooking Wild Game Volumes I & II by Steven Rinella
A Year in the Maine Woods by Bernd Heinrich
Indian Creek Chronicles by Pete Fromm
Elk of North America, Ecology and Management Jack Ward Thomas
just to name a few...

How is "Bowhunting Open Country Mule Deer" not in here. Dwight Shuh started it all...
