Anyone use them on rutting elk?
-
I have had the Montana decoy for probably 15 plus years. My neighbor talked me into it and said he had elk run into the decoy! Of course he sold them at his archery shop. I carried it in my pack for a year or two but quit. It is super lightweight and easy to set up but I like to move and call till I find some elk that are ready to play and I never felt like I had the time to set it up and be where I wanted to be when I got into some elk. I don't know never worked for me. Either the elk came in quick and didn't need the decoy or I had to play the elk chess game forever and ended up away from the decoy anyways. I think it would be good if you were sitting on water/salt/wallow and just doing some occasional calling.

I have a few of them. Never had anything come in to them but I have used the big rump decoy to just hold in my hand as I stalked in on a herd.

Yes ;).

I set up the Montana and had a cow steamroller it. I use one of those and one of the poison arrow decoys.

Yes ;).
I am going to try that poison arrow decoy this year.

dont see the need on rutting bulls, maybe a stalk in open country
-
Yes, they work. Can work really well to pull a bull, even a herd bull that last 50 yards away from the herd....good set up and good cow calling is important. Give it a try, its really fun when it works.
