Title: 7" perch in Lake Stevens?
Post by: Mr.T on July 22, 2017, 01:58:37 AM
Just got a little 11' tinny to fish with my kids and the last two days we've been having a blast bringing in lots of perch and blue gill (or sunfish).  Problem is, all those perch are 6-7". I thought they were supposed to be 7-10".  So even tho we kept a couple, we haven't come home with much table fair.

Is that typical for Lake Stevens?
What should we expect in size of perch around the north end of Lake Washington?

Perch tend to school up by year class.  If you are catching small perch and stay in the same spot you will most likely continue to catch small perch.  Move around the lake until you find bigger fish.  I've caught perch up to 10" in Lake Stevens.  They aren't common but they are in there.  I would suspect there are even larger fish that rarely get caught.

You will find it very similar to this post in Lake Washington however bigger keeper size perch are pretty common. If you aren't getting bigger ones than just keep moving until you find them. Lake Washington is pretty loaded with them. Fish on the weed line in 15-25'. Also as summer progresses you will find them schooled up heavy in deeper water out along the buoy markers. You need a fish finder to stay on them but you can really rake in a pile of nice ones in a hurry once you locate them.

Fished Lake Stevens almost every day during the summer in my school days.

Once I found them I would catch 12 inchers every day and the occasional 14 incher.  Biggest perch I ever caught was a 15 inch 2.2 pounder out of Lake Stevens!
