Title: Shrinking Federal lands.
Post by: luteai on July 28, 2017, 11:54:32 AM: A dangerous precedent is being set by the President. Taking protected federal lands and opening it up for mining and other wildlife unfriendly uses. Gutting the clean water act, after all we can buy bottled water right. Here's a link to information on this disaster in the making. I don't agree with all the LCV proposes or stands for but without public lands and clean water what kind of a legacy do we leave our future generations? I have heard neigh sayer's already, it only effects new National Monuments... once the precedent is set it's all up for sale folks!

I doubt that the Trump boys rub elbows with guys like us on public land. That's a clue to start with. You mentioned mining. I know a beautiful place up in 218 unit that was set to become an open pit copper mine. It's an area that routinely holds Trophy mule deer. Hope Trump doesn't cause that to happen.

Think about it. Is the Federal government buying lands to create these Monuments? No, this was all land owned by the Feds and open for your use. All they are doing is creating roadblocks to us using these lands either through outright bans on hunting or more commonly by restricting access.
How much land has effectively been closed off through road closures or wilderness designations that make trail maintenance difficult compared to things like that copper mine that was mentioned?
I'll take multiple use over protectionism.

None of these lands that were previously opened to hunting have been closed to hunting as a result of a National Monument designation. Contrary to popular belief BLM, USFS, and USFWS Monuments are open to hunting.
