Now that the draws are over....
What do folks think the most coveted units are in region 5 for a big bull? Margaret?
In terms of applications, it looks like Toutle is the most applied for.
-
Toutle or possible Coweeman. Probably Toutle.

I'm an east side Elk hunter as I refuse to sit in the rain in brush and hunt elk by brail! But I hear a lot about the Margaret Unit, and I have seen some nice elk on the way to and from climbing Mt. St. Helens.
Not planning to change to a west side hunter anytime soon, but I always wondered about where the hot units are on the west side. Toutle seems to get the most permit hits, and I think it is a permit only unit as I recall.
Just not sure what the impact of hoof rot has had.

Margaret unit is no longer a draw. FYI
-
due to hoof rot? or did they just redraw the units?
-
I believe due to private landowner damage and the profits they receive selling $350 permits to people who like limping elk.

East end of Margaret is now Norway Pass.
Best tag in 5 is probably the rifle rut tag in any unit. Followed by toutle,Norway,Smith and Whittier.
