Title: Little Naches late season??
Post by: Nwtrekker23 on August 22, 2017, 11:24:57 AM
Gonna be headed out to the Colockum in a few weeks for elk opener. Hope to get it done then. Hoping I don't gotta try and harvest my elk in late season I will be out there. I've checked out plenty of country in 346 just never hunted the unit. There is plenty of animal in there I know. For you fellas that hunt late season east side. How early can I expect snow, in 346. Have a few spots near the PCT. Just don't know how far I will be able to drive in come November. Any info would be great and thanks.

You can expect snow anytime from the 3rd week or so of October on. It only takes one good storm in late October to snow in that high country. You never know though. If its like last year, there was virtually no snow until the middle of December.

Its honestly a roll of the dice.  The weather is extremely variant.  Sometimes I am hiking looking for Christmas trees with bare ground, sometimes three feet on the ground.

I checked the snowfall info for Crystal mountain and it was somewhat helpful.  They have a bunch of historical data but keep in mind it is lower in elevation and on the other side of a big ridge.

It can be tee shirt weather and wake up the next morning to 2 feet of snow.

2 years ago we almost got stuck up there. Snowed 20+ inches overnight. VERY sketchy driving out. Could not see the tracks in the road. Up to the bumpers in my 1 ton

Thanks a lot for the great info. Guess I'll just have to cross fingers and hope I don't need to be up there come late season.  But worse case I'll be walking around knee deep.

Don't bother, if the snow is knee deep in late November near the PCT the elk are on their way to the welfare stations.

I would focus on the 1900 road east during the late season :twocents:.
