That is scary.
It seems like it's solely on the basis of license fees not covering the overall expense of regulating statewide trapping...

Are there any states where the license fees do in fact cover the overall total costs of regulation? If that is a way the Antis can wipe out trapping then what is going to keep us able to legally trap?  :yike:

I cannot imagine how they could ever come up with a figure for the cost of managing trapping that would legitimately show it cost more then licenses brought in.
I know in this State the Furbearer section manager only spends part of her time on trapping and the majority on her other job which is large carnivores. Probably spend less time then that in CA. No CITES tagging in CA so no expense there. What does that leave? Compiling the reports of catch and season setting is all I can come up with. Bet that could do it all in a day.
Maybe what they need to do is stop trying to manage furbearers, no license needed. With the price of fur I doubt they would ever over harvest.

I wonder if anyone would consider eliminating all government programs that lose money.

Bruce, Are you saying you think the lawsuit WILL fail?

I'd say the comments in that news link are scary, but that's about what I'd expect from a mentally ill morally defunct liberal Mecca like California. Not a trace of common sense to be found anywhere, just breathless proclaimations that hunters and trappers are bloodthirsty murders who are trying to extinct as many species as possible. These people have absolutely no clue what conservation is, and I'd bet that not one of them has ever opened their wallet to fund anything that fiscally supports conservation or enforcement.

If I had to predict what would happen I would guess it will never get to court.
Governor Brown has packed the F&W Commission with animal rights types. They will probably just close the season on furbearers except for depredation work to avoid defending against the suit in court.
