Hardly a secret meeting if it's in the news.
Novack tells KXRO that since any changes would only affect deer hunters in GMU 660, they are having a focused meeting open to those who responded to the survey and indicated that they wanted to participate.
I don't really see any issue with this approach. I didn't respond to any of the public comment options for this unit because I've never hunted there and never plan to. If folks have skin in the game, and care enough to respond, their voices should be heard.

:yeah:
Doesn't sound like it is some nefarious plan, just an opportuntiy for those that are directly affected in that specific area. General public meetings have already be done.
Why should people in Seattle or Spokane have the ability to impact something that doesn't directly affect them?
This is their backyard, they should have the most say in how it is done.

This meeting was not goin to be public until we went public about it. WDFW Bio Anthony Novak still did not say where and when.

I have some problems with it. First off, I was sent the questionaire, but I was and am still out of state and never had a chance to respond. That doesn't mean I don't care or I don't have skin in the game. Second, who were the questionaires sent out to? Just people who bought the Weyerhauser permit? Hunters who have hunted the unit in the past? Why should hunters who were left out of getting the questionaire be left out of a meeting on a public resource? It can affect all hunters down the line if it sets a precedent. Why should anyone in the state be left out of a meeting about a PUBLIC resource?
Lastly, from the answers they did get from those who responded, it doesn't appear there was all that much support for this proposal.

Sitka,
Fair enough. I'd make sure I sent my comments on this proposal to the commission. Keep in mind, this is a meeting to discuss the issue. The biologist does not have the authority to make the decision.
-
The people who were sent the questionnaire were also notified of the meeting at that time. People who reported hunting GMU 660 in the past were sent the questionnaire. I got one. But I'll be hunting in Idaho when the meeting is scheduled so I can't attend. Which is fine, they've got my opinion from the questionnaire.

I don't believe this was ever a "secret" meeting, and it was always open to the public.

It wasn’t going to be announced to the public.
