Title: Youth options
Post by: jnordwell on October 01, 2017, 05:08:53 PM
Hello I have a 11 yr old that is looking to join me with next year muzzy elk hunting. I have a tc grey hawk in 50 cal but at a 14" lop it is too long.  I also have a 54 tc grey hawk I've shot but I am thinking of getting a inline. Thinking knight bighorn but I buddies that have a cvs optima and a traditions g4 long range... so who knows any thoughts for me and my son?? Thanks ahead of the time.

The Knight Littlehorn in .50 is a good, smaller option.  The previous incarnations (for used market) were the Wolverine and the LK-93(I think?).  Thing is, he's 11 now, which means he's probably going to be growing at a fairly quick pace soon, and those are not on the cheap end of muzzies (~$360 for the Littlehorn).

One viable option is to buy a cheap, blued inline .50 and hack off the stock.  When he's outgrown it, sell it for cheap to the next dad with a pre-teen killing machine.  I don't have much experience with hacking plastic stocks, so take this advice with a grain of powder.

My 8 year old son is shooting the CVA Optima. It also has a 14" length of pull. At first I thought it was going to be too long but he gets on it just fine. He loves shooting it. I load it up with 50gr of powder and it hardly kicks at all. Perfect load for him to work on shooting without killing his shoulder until it's actually time to hit the woods with a bigger load. It is a great gun that's going to last him a very long time.

Second the thought on the Little Horn! is really just a Wolverine with a shortened stock for youth.  They do offer a regular camo stock option as well as the pink camo.  Also when he outgrows the shorter LOP of the Littlehorn there is an adult stock that will fit it perfectly and then it really becomes a Wolverine.

Midway USA has a great sale on Knights going on now!

My daughter shoots my bighorn just fine.  It has the thumbhole stock.  Not sure if that helps her or not.

What adult stock fits the little horn?  My sons about grown out of his.

This is the adult stock

But in truth any of the Bighorn - Wolverine stick will fit.  Even most MK-85 stocks will work

If you go here you can see the other options for Bighhorn/Wolverine stocks - near the bottom of the page...
