Not sure what kind of trap you saw but it would be virtually impossible to catch a wolf in a live trap no matter what the size. The Department know this and I can't believe they would waste their time.
What you saw was either for something else or possibly a holding cage but not a trap, IMO.

It was a guillotine drop door trap. Size was guessing one of the largest I have seen. Pretty much filled up the back of the pick-up box. Perhaps the WDFW is aware of this but if they set a trap they can say they are doing something. :twocents:

Sounds like a bear live trap possibly adapted for other uses. There are also deer/elk traps that use a guillotine door. Just because it was in the back of the truck doesn't mean they were going to drop it off and try to capture a wolf. What I'd like to know is who was it and what are they doing? A license plate number or a photo would have been great. Has anyone bothered to ask WDFW?

The first word was "Perhaps" as to imply that could have been the destination. Since it was a WDFW truck I would venture to guess they might have been on board.

If it was a cage trap I would be skeptical of it being a bear trap but it could be for cougar complaints.
