Hornady announced its new 6.5 PRC cartridge, its arrival in 2018. So if your planning on or thinking about purchasing a Creedmoor. You may want to hold off for the 6.5 PRC.
Factory loads:
143gr ELD-X @ 2960 BC .623
147gr ELD-M @ 2910 BC .697

One heck of a BC.

:bash: Why do these companies keep doing this, now I have to add another rifle to the collection along with a new Bow this year!

Just what I thought and you can bet Ruger will be all over the chambering.

Id be okay with a Ruger American that'll keep some of the cost down for me!

Hmm, that's a 260 FPS gain over the same factory ammo with the same bullet in the 6.5 Creed. That put's this new 6.5 PRC right up there with the 6.5-284. Wonder what the case capacity is and what size case head it uses, standard or mag bolt face.
Upon further reading, Mag bolt face required.

Just called Pacific Tool and Gauge. Ordered a reamer & "Go" guage, their 8 weeks out. That will give me time to have a barrel chambered. Before the factory ammo is plentiful.
GA-Precision has brass and dies.
Brass $420.00 for 500 pieces
Hornady dies $110.00

“It’s a non-rebated short mag based on a short RCM [Ruger Compact Magnum] case. It has 3-4 grains less capacity than the 6.5 SAUM which nets about 30-50 fps deficit to the SAUM.”

Pretty much all you need to know about the chambering.

Ouch! The folks at Accurateshooter weren't particularly kind with their words on this new cartridge were they.

I have had several 6.5-.284's built and to do it right and shoot the longer, heavier high BC bullets they need to be built on a long action. I can understand Hornady's thinking in designing a cartridge for a short action Magnum. George's 6.5 SAUM was a very popular chambering. He just work with Hornady to produce a SAAMI Spec'd version for the masses. With factory ammo support. Along with dies, brass and factory rifles being available instead of only customs available for the original 6.5 SAUM.
Not everyone reloads, so the 6.5 PRC will be a hit with guys who want top performance with a factory rifle and factory ammo. Comparing factory Creedmoor ammo speeds to 6.5 PRC factory ammo speeds there is a BIG difference! Not so much for the handloaded, the handloaded can always squeeze out more velocity.
For hunting no matter what angle you look at it.
Factory 6.5 PRC ammo with a 143gr ELD-X at 2960and a BC of .623 is a long range, flat shooting, game killing combo. All on a compact short action.

:yeah:
Exactly what I thought!

This is great timing for me. I've been narrowing my cartridge choices for a new rifle. I was thinking something in the .25 caliber to 7mm range. Looks like I'll have to wait and see on the new 6.5 though!
