Title: Bearcreek Dewatto vs. Skok hunting
Post by: Natas5150 on October 27, 2017, 04:17:57 AM
Tomorrow myself and my wife will be going out in hopes of bagging our first buck. Which area would you all recommend is the best for possible seeing and hopefully tagging out? We did hunt last weekend the bearcreek area and didnt see anything. Is there alot of pressure in that area? Is there alot of pressure in the skok unit? I know this is a loaded question but i just want to see if what everyone recommends that have hunted in either unit. Wherw will be most successful tomorrow?

Thanks and i look foward to all the responses.

Head up the Skok valley and up towards Browns Creek and Spider Lake.
Find a finger to hike up and get up away from the roads.

On Bear Creek Dewatto there is tons of pressure at least one car at most gates.  Depends on which gate you go behind you will run into dirt bikers.  to be honest with all the pressure the only deer i've seen have been walking the main road after dark.

Neither one is better or worse than the other. This warm weather has the deer all messed up. My go to spot this am was a dead zone. Rut has slowed a little. It will pick up again with some colder weather the end of next week, after the season. Pick a spot and go for it.

 :yeah:

I've drawn the archery rut tag 3 times for the skokomish in an attempt to redeem myself for a missed shot on the biggest blacktail I've ever took a crack at, which happened to be my first year hunting with a rifle. Got close to getting my redemption and with a bow at that. Watch for brush pickers and mushroom pickers and hikers.

Ps... bring the rain gear, even if it doesn't show rain in the forcast. Pray for rain, pray to stay dry and have a buck cruise into your sights.
