This is a public service announcement for anyone who may be on the fence or is of the "just eyeball it" philosophy.
Get a dang meat thermometer. I put it off for years and years and finally broke down and spent $13. Best money I've ever spent. I cooked a bottom round elk roast in my crock pot last night to exactly 145°F. Getting that temp exact makes all the difference in the world.

I've been using a meat thermometer for years. There is no other way to cook perfect meat. I can get pretty close by eye balling it, but getting my backstraps to exactly 130 degrees is key. I really appreciate it when cooking chicken, and pull it out as soon as it reaches temperature. My wife never liked chicken breasts until I cooked them. She just assumed they always tasted like chalk because that's how her mom cooked them!

Yup, thermometers are great. especially with pork and poultry. You can be sure you've hit a safe I.T. without overcooking and drying it out.

I recently purchased one of the Meater bluetooth thermometers and it has been awesome! Used it for a sirloin roast and it was done to perfection. It even gives you an idea of how long it will take at temperature and shows temperature graphs for both the internal meat and the ambient in the grill. Apparently my Traeger is about 35 degrees less than the knob setting.

My ex stole my meat thermometer when we split up.
I have one I use when slow cooking pork mostly.
I like my beef bloody. I like my chicken falling off the bones. I can eyeball pretty much anything but pork I like to check temp on.

Just got one of these :yeah: looks pretty cool. I have always used a corded therm. so looking forward to trying this one out. My SIL sells these where she works in Spokane, and has nothing but good things to say about it.
Gonna have to cook some meat tomorrow ;)

I run digital remote thermometers with alarms.
Now I can put a bunch of meat in the smoker and go to work knowing my wife will take it out of the smoker when the alarm goes off.

With the warmer weather, I found the grill temp is more accurate. My only complaint is that my phone has to be within about 20 feet of the grill for the signal to reach it. I cooked some pork loin last weekend to 150 and it was awesome!
