Just curious. Is there a late buck season here? I was jiggling around Beckler river with my boys today looking for grouse and saw lots of rigs with guys in orange driving them. The regs dont show 448 as open. Are these guys falsely assuming there is late buck season here? Are rhey just extra cautious grouse hunters?

What you saw were most likely the late season permit holders.

I️ take that back. The permit ended already so someone may have been confused.

No late season without a permit. They only give out 10 modern permits and the last day for that season was on the 16th. Archery and muzzleloader starts Nov. 22. :dunno:

Plenty of guys don't bother to read the regs, so it wouldn't surprise me of there's guys hunting up there. A call to the game department would be worthwhile.

Isn’t hunters orange required to hunt grouse? May be guys just leaving the orange on so they don’t have to take off and put on when they stop? Wouldn’t surprise me if there were idiots out there hunting deer though.

Orange isn’t required to hunt grouse because grouse aren’t considered upland game birds.
Unless you’re hunting grouse during a modern firearm deer or elk season.

Wish there was a late season in 448.
They're either small game hunters that wear orange or people that don't read the hunting regs.

Bear?

Most likely grouse hunters. Most grouse hunters don't know you don't have to wear orange.......im Not a big grouse hunter, but I didn't know that you don't need orange.

Bear?
Bear closed the 16th I believe

A noticed a lotta people wear orange for safety while grouse hunting, but they know that orange is not required unless it's deer/elk season. Most are afraid to get shot by retards that shoot at everything that's moving.
I won't wear orange, unless it's required, but that's just me.....It ruins my camo :chuckle:

Having lived in that area my whole life you will find grouse hunters mostly and even though hunter orange is not required is doesn't hurt to wear it. The bear season used to run longer in that unit. The late deer tag which covers the area you were in is from Nov 11-16th. But there is not much for deer up there anymore with most permit hunters having a lot better luck in the Granite Falls/Skagit portion of that unit. I find that when I ask those guys what they are hunting for they don't know what unit they are even in. There's a lot of clowns that come up here and shoot up krap and leave their garbage for others to pick up.
-
Bear closed the 15th but even if it didn't, orange isn't required for bear hunting either. I wonder if the WDFW would catch it if a hunter reported killing a buck during the late season in a unit that wasn't open? Heck, a lot of guys probably never even know what GMU they're in. My guess is most of the hunters you saw wearing orange thought they were hunting an area that was open for the late deer season.

I was out in my orange. Walking old roads with shotguns for grouse, I feel alot better with my partner drawing on a bird if he knows where I'm at, and also so no one else shoots me in the woods. I don't think grouse give a rip about my orange.

That's a true statement, grouse do not give a rip about your orange.
-
Your dog doesn't really give a rip about your orange either.

Could be scouting around for late archery season
