I'm In >:(
Black tail hunted and got nothing to show for it.
My excuse is that it snowed 10+ inches starting on opening day of the late season.
I have never hunted in that much snow up there.
Deer moved on to their winter range. :bash:
That's My story and I'm sticking to it.
Anyone else?
-
I didn't kill one cause I chose not to, on holloween I could have shot a 3pt with eye guards but he wasn't big enough, my daughter drew down on a 3 pt on Friday but just couldn't get on the gun quick enough before it walked into some real thick stuff, but she was a champ about it, she just needs a little more strength in her arms and I could have killed a small two pt on the last day of extended buck but again way to small!! Tag soup for me but that's ok, there will be some bigger bucks next year  but still, there is nothing like huntn the grey ghost !!!
-
Nothing for us either. Just saw spikes, and 1 2pt that I thought it was past shooting light, so he lived. Brandon, next time you see a 3 pt with eyegaurds, tie him to a tree and I'll come get him!!
-
Got several trail cam pics and faced down a nice 3-point blacktail twice at close range but too much vegetation to fling an arrow. The freezer will be empty by Spring. Grumble, grumble... :P
-
Cuda, shuda, wuda had tag soup waitin for that 170 in the Entiat but instead harvested a fat lil 4 pt that looks pretty good in the freezer.
-
Better to be safe than sorry :twocents:. That's my excuse. Was 75% sure it was him, but couldn't 100% confirm. He and his younger brother look the same, except he is a 3x3 and hid brother is a 2 point.
Has a late Palouse tag and things kept on piling up on me and didn't have a chance to hunt over there.
-
I'm in. For elk, I hunted hard for every day I could get away so no excuse other than I could have hunted harder.
For deer, I cancelled my 2nd deer tag and could have driven the 12 hours roundtrip and gave it a shot so that one is on me. Work foiled my shot at my buck tag, that was a huge bummer. Just not my year, but we did better with the kid's tags so I wouldn't change a thing.
-
I'm in. Excuse for fall bear and general MF elk is just not putting in the time.
For Palouse buck and 2nd deer, I'm gonna blame luck and access, respectively. Did hunt both several days, had some chances for shots, but never got one off.
I'm pretty sure the real reason is it's only the second year I've been hunting, and trying to put everything together just takes time. Right?
At least it's a tasty tag soup...
-
I'm in
I missed......twice.....and it wasn't the gun or scopes fault..........I just missed....twice.
-
I'm in for WA, mostly because I'm just lazy. Got a small buck in Missouri last week though.
-
Four tags bought not one filled. Bear tag went unfilled but not for lack of trying put lots of time in and kept seeing bear right when it was too dark to pursue. Work canceled my vacation so no deer or elk hunting this year for me.

hunted 3 days not a horn heard close wolf howls tag soup it is
-
Hunted deer and elk 10 days as hard as i could never saw a legal animal. Disappointed boardering on pissed off even if that isn't the right way to feel about it.
-
Nothing for our camp.
Hunted elk, saw lots of bulls and cows no spikes.
Hunted mule deer modern, some got peeks at bucks but no shots.
-
Too many passes, not enough bigguns.
-
Twisp area was terrible this year. Didn’t see any bucks only couple of does
-

I ate my elk tag because I didn't even go and I didn't kill a bear because I only kill bears if they're tearing up the orchard. This year we had bears in the orchard every day but they were content to eat the fruit that I had pulled and left on the ground - not so much as a single broken limb.
-
I'm eating tag soup, got back from 9 days in Colorado and had a tumor removed from my brain stem and auditory nerve.
Neurosurgeon won't clear me to go out.... come on doc, it's been 5 weeks and I have muzzle deer and elk tags burning a hole in my pocket.... Neither he or my physical therapist are sympathetic. .... so soup it is...

Continued life soup probably pretty tasty I would imagine. You’ll get them next year.
-
Got hurt before deer season, so chose not to go so I could still make it out for elk. Then during elk I guided my 13 year old daughter to a cow elk (youth special permit for antlerless). The other guys didn't want to keep hunting after that, and I can't reasonably deal with an elk solo. So tag soup for me, with a side of cow elk from my daughter.

:yeah:This doesn't even qualify for tag soup.
-
Good stuff so far. It makes Me feel better hearing some of the other peoples stories.
-
Had my Bino's up instead of my rifle and did not see the third point till he turned, less than 100 yards and he slipped into the brush and gone. Followed from where I last saw him but could not find him again, only legal Buck seen in five days of hunting.
-
My 4 cousins and Uncle all TAG SOUP. I filled my bear tag and deer tag in 5 total days of hunting. I took a friend hunting for 4 days TAG SOUP for him as well, but he did miss a basket rack 4x4 I spotted for him and we saw a GIANT 5X5 but he didn't have his rifle in his hands.

I’m in. My excuse is I’m a lousy deer hunter.
:hello:

I got married.... in October
I've already heard it all from every hunter I know about what a stupid time of year to get married. My wife said she doesn't care about the anniversaries, so it shouldn't disrupt my future seasons but this year was a mess. I'm going to go out for late muzzleloader but I'm not holding out much hope for this year

Now that is what I call honesty. :chuckle:

Tag soup on the buck for me. Hunted mule deer the 2nd weekend it was open, saw one legal buck but he was on the wrong side of the fence. Buddy had one stolen from him as well.
Hunted blacktail last Friday, didn't expect much as I was going in 100% blind. Saw lots of sign, so that was good, and even saw a doe and a fawn. I'd say it was a "successful" attempt at blacktail.
-
I havnt even started to hunt yet. Next Monday I'll start my 2 week quest for a mule deer.
If past history is any indication I'll be calling my wife on the 8th to tell her to heat up some broth :'(
-
My wife and I both got bulls and both struck out deer. Tag soup it is! I hunted blacktails pretty hard and never did see many bucks. I missed one little tiny buck on a snap shot as he chased a doe across and abandoned road. The only reason I got a shot off is because they were making a ton of noise with him chasing her in the brush. I had about 1 second to get a shot off and already had the gun up because I knew he was coming.
But, I missed and will have to wait until next year.

Your wife doesn't care about anniversaries because she hasn't had one yet. That is a trap if I've ever heard one!! You're in a very dangerous position!!

Clear case of a woman saying one thing when she means the opposite. So much to learn :tung:

There's only really one month out of the year that I consider safe for marriage. That is july. Child conception would be October- november......just like deer. Lol

All eggs in one basket per season, pretty much. That's my excuse! First year in 5!
First season basket didn't have any bucks in it (comparatively). Our group saw two legal bucks and got one and missed the other. Had 4 kids tag in 1010 so I was busy (another excuse!)
Had a second deer tag for late season and put all those eggs in one private permission property basket... which fell through as I rolled in and parked. (Not due to me, but cost me. Deer standing in back yards all around me as I kept saying, "Oh, no problem. This is your place, you say what goes here.") Tried to find a spot last minute, plenty of hunters, no deer. At all. First time ever I could shoot anything I saw... and saw nothing!
Still, have 4 deer in the freezer (Just barely enough to last us (8 eaters) the year) so I'm very thankful for that.
And late archery elk is still available. Should get a day or two that I can go.
And if all else fails, there's roadkill potential for jerkey and sausage making...
I'm content.... Just still a little bummed. ;)
Almost time to call Cougars!
-
Hunted a few days deer numbers down so bad I just enjoyed watching them this year and I'm fine with tag soup. Hope to see some changes in the near future to help the deer rebound.
-
We have too much meat in the freezer. That kinda took my drive down a notch to want to shoot something I don't really need. I'm also focused more on predators at this point anyways.

damn man not only did you step in a conniber but you stuck your hand in a MB750 , sorry man but you got trapped , snared and hook line and sinkered all in one fell swoop!! Sorry kid , you can hunt in a few years, we all know this cause we fell for it at one point as well :chuckle:
-
Rule #1 dont pass up any buck on the first day you'd shoot on the last day. Shot the first big bodied buck i saw and don't regret a thing.
-
I passed up a legal buck on my way to work on the opener because as my coworker said I am an idiot. I just could not bring myself to call in sick cuz I stopped and shot a deer.
Then I passed another opportunity driving to work because I mistakenly thought it was private land, not public.
My opportunities have definitely gotten better road hunting my drive to work :chuckle:
Never saw a bear where I could shoot it and no cats. I won't be elk hunting any more so at least there was no tag to burn.
-
It was my first year and saw no deer (except for a doe on the road before shooting light in a 3pt or better area)
-
Nothing for me this year.
I let my 12 year old son take the shot which, in reality, was much more satisfying than killing a buck myself. I'd pass up a lifetime of killing bucks to be there with him when he does it.

lol to funny and true order flowers in advance and have them dropped off when gone!!!!!

Well first time in 4 years that I am eating tag soup for every category. 1 Non resident elk tag, 1 non resident bear tag, and all my Washington tags. Super slow year for the fiancé and I. Good thing I shot all the grouse I could.
-
Tag soup for Montana archery Antelope, just a hard animal to kill with a bow. For Washington modern Elk and Cougar, put lots of time in and now I'm on a 5 year Elk slump. Saw one Cougar with no shot opportunity. But I'm Eating Blacktail deer and Black Bear this year.

Married in October, congrats, but at the same time, I'm sad for you!! Now here's the deal, I don't know much, but after being married for 20 years, if a woman says she don't care, that's secret code for she does care!!

I can't say 100% it was stolen, but it was 95%.
Basically, he shot (farther than I like) about 400yds, confirmed hit with the spotting scope at the same time. Deer ran, started heading up hill, was running out of gas ready to tip and another hunter who didn't see him run in front of him the first time, saw him the second time at 25yds and took the shot to finish him. My buddy watched the deer run in front of the guy who tagged it, and then go back once the buck knew he couldn't make the hill. My buddy could have put the kill shot on at 100yds but wasn't a safe shot with another hunter behind the buck. When confronted the other hunter and his partner denied any shots other than his own were in the deer. An unfortunate series of events, but also one that you learn from and hopefully decide to practice a bit more at that distance if you're willing to take the shot.

Nice muley spotted.
He's walking at about 125 yds.
I stabilize for the shot on a small tree.
He stops.
All but his rump is obscured by a small group of trees that are at about 75 yards.
I wait. My arms are getting tired but I don't dare move for fear of making noise or being spotted.
Finally he moves but up the rock slope and out of my view forever.
I had his butt in the cross hairs for so long...
I'm going to the same spot next year as I saw a different bigger deer with a smaller rack not 100 yards from the same spot.
