Title: Foxpro Patriot
Post by: Blacktail Sniper on November 21, 2017, 10:01:40 AM
Thoughts or expierences, good or bad with this model?

Considering wading into the Black Friday mess at Cabela's and using one of my Savage rebate cards for one of these.

If you do everything right it will call coyotes.

Thanks, but I was hoping for is more along the lines of the Patriot unit specifically.

I know Foxpro has a pretty solid reputation as a good product, but I have read things like mid-level unit, lower end, etc., and just wondering where this one falls into?

And other things like, are there any specific issues known to be associated with the Patriot to be aware of, for example, remote problems, function issues, range issues, etc.

Was hoping someone had more insight along those lines before I attempted to wade into the Black Friday crowds...

It's not their bottom end caller.  They don't put out a product that will wreck their reputation and they have great CS.  A caller with 100 free sounds and great CS from a reputable company, it would be very hard to go wrong with it for less than $100.  If money were tight and I needed a caller I wouldn't hesitate( I own six callers, 4 Minaskas and 2 FP's).  My BinL has an old bottom of the line FP Spitfire that he still uses doing control work on dairy farms back in WI.

From FP's description it sounds like the real deal.

I was wondering the same deal and can you hook up a mojo critter to it ?

not readily but it will mount an FP decoy that is just about the same.  you would have to rewire the mojo critter to plug into the aux port of the caller.  for me it works just as well to just turn it on when I place the caller and leave it run until I pick up the caller at the end of the stand.

This call is very similar to the first fox Pro I used 20 years ago only with much better techno . i called in and killed hundreds of Coyotes with that old model, As AWS said if you set up right the caller will do the job .

Just got done at cabelas I bought the last one they had on the shelf and a couple trail cameras it took over 1.5 hours to check out but I guess I saved some money

I just got home with one too, was at the Lacey store, they still had quite a few.

Was it taking so long because of the number of people?  I was the only one in line and they had open registers with no one waiting the whole time I was there.

It wasn't really any busier than any other day, but the cashier said it was crazy when they first opened.

Honestly, I didn't see all that many great deals there.  There were some good ones, but not nearly what I expected.

But to be fair, this was my first Black Friday shopping event, so I may have had higher expectations than I should have.

The check out line inside the store was all the way around the store but I got a $50 card when I walked in plus I got some nice deals on trail cams too
So $500 and a couple hours later  :dunno:

Cool!

I was playing with mine a little bit ago and I let loose with a Lone Coyote locator and my bride calls down from the upstairs office, "I hope that is you!?"

So, of course I had to follow right behind with Jack Rabbit distress, to which I heard, "Well..that sounds distrubing!!"

I like it, think it will work out fine for what I want, good luck, hope you enjoy yours as well!

I still have a little work to get my Rem 788 ready to go, got the last part in last week, just haven't been able to finish it so I can get it sighted and get going.

SOOOOO........

After having typed that and then sitting here looking at what I had just typed for a minute, I decided now was as good a time as any...

Now just have to boresight then finish it off on paper and I think I will be ready!!!

Nice !!!

Thanks!

I had previously had it all ready to go, or so I thought... :bash:

Went to fire a few rounds after boresighting and it would not eject the empties.  Didn't matter how fast I tried working the bolt.  A little research and I found out that is a common issue with 788's, the ejector throws them at a pretty high angle and causes the shell to get knocked back in by hitting the scope.

Found two "cures" in my research:

1) Rotate the scope a quarter trun to the left... could not get that to look right no matter how hard I tried!!  Yeah, I'm one of those!  :chuckle:

2) Use tall rings.  Got a pair of them installed and now had proper ejection, but then not a comfortable cheek weld...hence the adjustible riser.

I guess the biggest cause of my putting it off was the drilling of the stock, kinda hard to come back from that if ya screw it up!!

But, there it is...

Cool model 788! What cartridge?
I have one in .223 Remington, killed a few coyotes with it over the years. time for a few more I think.

Has anyone compared the Foxpro Patriot to the Lucky Duck Rebel? Both 119.99.  The Rebel has a motion decoy attached. Just curious...thanks!

I too am curious the difference in patriot and rebel. Less sounds in the rebel and can't load additional (it seems). But, rebel can play 2 sounds at once and includes decoy attachment.
I'm likely going to buy myself the rebel tomorrow for my bday, unless someone can lead me a different direction. Just getting into predator hunting so $120 is a lot easier to swallow than $200+.

Any update on the callers?  I see they still have them on sale and thinking about picking one up.

Can’t go wrong with Foxpro.  But the cheaper models constantly need fresh batteries, a real pain in the butt.  I have the Banshee and I hardly ever have to replace the batteries.  You get what you pay for with E callers

I'm still using an older foxpro CS24B from the custom shop, it works good.

I've upgraded my decoy, I was using a jack in the box but I want a more frantic decoy so I'll be using Icotec PD200.  I like the MOJO spinners but I think their critter 2 went downhill.

Hopefully I picked out a good one, I'll bungie it up in a tree with the call, or spike it in a rotten stump most likely.

Ok I'm diggin the new icotec decoy

I can confirm that it does work with with the AUX port on the foxpro.

I like that I can adjust the spin speed of the decoy topper

there is a slight motor noise, but the flapping of the decoy topper drowns it out I think, it's slight.  It's pretty quiet really, just as quiet as my jack in the box.  I like the flapping noise of the decoy, in fact I think I want to add a plastic strip to enhance the flapping noise with wood pecker sounds when I hang it in a tree....ya  ;)

coulple things I noticed, you'll need a good fingernail or knife to get the flex spring rod out of the decoy motor once you have the plastic bushing/clip in place.
You can't just yank out the flex spring without removing that bushing, it somehow locks it in place even though the flex spring is magnetic mount, I dunno it won't come out and I didn't want to yank it any harder.  Not a big deal I don't chew my finger nails  :chuckle:

below is a picture of the clip thingie you need to pry off before you remove the decoy rod from the motor part
