Anybody have any stories of wounds/bullets/ broad heads they've pulled out of animals they've harvested? Just curious. Last year my hunting partner was fortunate enough to harvest an elk that we later discovered that it was the same bull I was unable to recover from the week prior. Got my bullet back though. Amazing animals. The cougar I harvested a few years back had a broken foot with a canine bite wound clear through and scratch marks on his butt. Not sure if he won or lost that fight haha

I got a cow about 10 years ago that had a muzzy bullet in one of her rear quarters.

My Washington moose had wounds/scars on his hindquarters where wolves tried to hamstring him.
I hope he ripped a couple up with his devilish brows

Speaking of. idabooners big Tom had a chest wound where an antler tip penetrated all the way to the cats heart. It was bruised where it hit the heart. Another 1/8 of an inch of thrust and there would have been dead puddy

My hunting partner shot an older whitetail buck on private land near Kaycee Wyoming. As we skinned the buck, quite a few size 7 1/2 lead shot fell to the floor, and lots more were stuck in the fascia. When he cut up the deer, he found size 6 and size 2 shot in the meat.
The rancher had alfalfa fields and told us to "shoot as many of those damned things as you want". I suspect the shot size probably correlated with his depredation frustration on any given day.

I shot a buck about 6 or 7 years ago that had a broad head behind the shoulder blade. It was all infected and atrophied. About 3 years ago I shot a bull with a 22 bullet in the hind quarter. I found it when I put it through my meat grinder and about broke my arm when the grinder tried to fly off the counter. This year my wife's bull had a blade and point of an expandable broad head between the skin and bone just above the rear hoof. I've shot lots of ducks and geese with old pellets in them.

I responded to a November report years ago of a poached buck at the Casper, WY water treatment plant. I found a dead buck with a round entrance wound perfectly placed behind his right shoulder with no exit. When we opened him up to look for a bullet, the minimal trauma, lack of hydrostatic shock trauma, and no projectile led us to conclude he'd been killed by a tine puncture from another buck.

2 years in a row I've gotten lead out of deer taken in Wyoming. One was a 22 LR bullet and one was buckshot. I think the rancher tries to discourage the deer from eating his hay.......... :o

A bull elk I got years ago has a healed 1+ inch diameter antler hole in his skull behind his ear. When I was a kid, a friend of my dad's called him to come take care of a paralyzed buck on his farm. The big guy had been shot with one of those old green broadheads in the spine. It had stopped less than a quarter inch away. We figured during a rut fight, he got hit by another buck and it shoved the blade through.

Also, the bull with the 22 bullet in the hind quarter was a non-typical and had its skull broken and healed up.

A bull a few years back we cut out 3 blades of a broad head out of the bulls neck. Was all calloused in a tube from the neck meat to the skin/hide. super strange no shaft or anything holding the blades. Not quite sure on the shot placement of the archer but I guess they felt comfy making it.

Funny i also found the muzzy bullet with the meet grinder.

Skinning a big cow years ago we found an encapsulated .54 cal sabot muzzle loader bullet completely flattened right under the skin of her neck. It was a weird white cyst looking thing we decided to cut open. Hit lead and carefully carved it out, finding a little T off the back by where the caliber was stamped.

Shot a huge cow archery season a couple years ago that had been shot with a rifle. She had a broken hip and ribs. Found copper jacket in front shoulder. Looked like they tried to Texas heart shot her. It was fresh....within the week. A little meat wast on hind quarter is all. Explained why she wasn't in as big a hurry to leave town when I stepped on the heard. Glad I got to put her out of her misery.

Bull i harvested this year had a wound on its chest area. Full of mystery liquid. Guy in camp said it could have been gored by a bull or branch? Shot during previous season? Found no broadhead or bullet

Two events, one whitetail wounded in early archery killed in rifle, healed up, no sign of injury, nicked a lung, broadhead recovered. One bull, long healed, broadhead against heart. Tough critters.

I shot a Big Boar with my recurve a few years ago that about 8" of the back end of an aluminum shaft and fletching that fell out when I gutted him. Had a broken rib and a bone growth on his spine. I'm guessing it was from the year before but was completely healed

I shot a buck one time that had what appeared to be a .44 mag bullet just inside the hide on the shoulder.

I had a mangled broadhead in the shoulder blade of a cow elk 10-12 years ago. Fully healed over..... Kind of calcified around it.
My son had a cow 6-7 years ago with a copper solid barely stuck in the shoulder blade. It wasn't very mushroomed and didn't penetrate the shoulder blade. It was 30 caliber. I wondered if someone took a LOOOOONG poke with his rifle. Either that or it was from a really slow caliber.

Arrowed a cow elk years ago in the Blues in NE OR and she had a fairly large chunk of wood in her front leg. At about 1" wide or more and 2.0" long, I considered it large. I'm sure she felt it for a while.

My wife shot a bull that had been shot by a core lokt type bullet in his shoulder. It was an older wound. It was a huge mass, like a ball joint, with a bullet chunks in it

My brother shot a spike bull in the Colockum 3 or 4 years ago that had been shot in the face with a carbon fiber arrow. The broad head had completely wallowed out both nasal passages and the nose had caved in. He shot the bull at 411 yards. So he was surprised upon finding the broke off arrow.

Years ago I hunted a shotgun only area. Both bucks that I killed in that area had old buckshot in them from previous seasons. The pellets had worked their way out of the flesh and were just under the hide with no apparent impact on their health. One also had a shotgun slug hole through the ear that was the result of my missing the shot on the same buck a week earlier as he bolted as I pulled the trigger.

Took a 5x5 bull in a timbered old growth canyon in the Siouxon unit during modern rifle. All by myself so I gutted, skinned and propped up the meat off of the ground. Brought the crew back in the am for the pack out. While I was splitting the sternum with my saw it just stopped sawing. Nothing...dug in there a found a four blade broad head stuck in there. No shaft and pretty much healed up with the bone kind of growing around it. No infection we could see.
Thought it would make a cool trinket so I carefully dug it out and laid it on a nearby log and we went back to work. Then a damn camp robber flew down, grabbed it a flew off and landed on an old growth branch above us and dropped the broad head onto it. As far as I know it's still there. Damn bird.

I shot a small 5x5 elk near Naselle when I lived there and before skinning it, I noticed a small hole in the shoulder with thick puss coming out. I thought at first it may have been from a tick or something similar, but when I skinned it out I found a 50 cal. maxi ball.
A friend in Alaska butchers animals in the fall and winter and he gets moose from a certain guide and more than a couple times he has found small caliber bullets under the skin of these animals in the back or neck. Speculation is the guide pops them from a plane to slow them down for his clients.

Shot a nice bull 5 years ago or so and when we skinned it out we found 13 22 bullets throughout the body.

My buddy is an orthopedic surgeon and last year when he operated on me he found my wife's size 8 shoe lodged in my backside from her being to tired of my hunting trips!!!!!!!!! Hee Hee !!!! Sorry, I just had to go there!!!! :chuckle: :chuckle:

I shot the same antelope my daughter did two days later. I had her scope messed up and she held perfectly but hit way low, nicked his leg. I noticed it as he was hanging upside down from the hitch hoist by headlamp.

The blacktail buck I shot this year had one eye gouged out. Had to be during a fight earlier this year. The eye was way shrunken up and sunken into his head.

My dad got a nice 4 pt bull in forks area years ago, had a round ball in it, and a broad head. Butcher was not happy that his saw blade had cut the broad head in 2 pieces. I shot a 3x4 Blacktail one year, one of his front legs was about 4 inches shorter than the other, old wound, had a big deformity in the leg right below the shouder

killed a bull the third week of rifle season (Montana) last year. Found 8 inches of arrow with broadhead attached completely inside the chest cavity, no indication of a wound from the outside. The arrow was lodged next to the backbone in some connective type tissue. Just some slight blood stain under the hide on the chest. Arrow had probably been there since early September.

killed the bull in my Avatar during Rifle season, upon skinning found 10 inches of arrow lodged between hide and ribs. Looked to be a hard quartering away shot that deflected and ran under the hide instead of penetrating. Would have been a money shot had it not done that. Bull scores 356 and I'm sure someone still has that shot haunting them to this day. I kiilled it in 2009.

First and only Bear I shot with a friend while skinning it I found a .22 bullet in him. Was aged at 9 years when I sent in the tooth. Figure it must of been a farmer keeping him out of the garbage or something. Thinking too he'd gotten pushed out of his home because where we shot him was in low farm land. :o

Killed a spring turkey north of Spokane that had multiple .177 cal pellets in it that were healed over. Guessing he was wintering in someone's yard.

My bear had a shoulder full of birdshot. Very little made it into muscle, but enough did that I had to be careful eating pepperoni.

Still have an Allen Lightning 3 razor with piece of aluminum shaft out of a high mountain buck. Must've been in there for quite a while, had a nice grapefruit size pus pocket surrounding it
