Got a decent blacktail this afternoon. Second deer this year (and ever), first blacktail, first archery kill. We're hauling him out I'll post more later.

Very nice!

Nice buck ! Looks like a faint dbl throat patch and maybe a busted tine ?
Beautiful coloring!!
-
Nice!great looking Blacktail!
-
Thanks all! Yes, there was a broken off tine. It would have been a dandy with it. I shot him where we had our cams out, and we have never seen him before. So that's the 5th or 6th buck in the area.
-
Dandy!

A buck to be proud of, congrats.

That is a GREAT buck I have one mounted that's all broken up too ! Good job man !

That's a great one P-G! I'll bet your dad's pleased as can be. I love that right side. All busted up but cool as hell. You worked really hard over several years for that buck. Glad to see your efforts paid off.

Dads pretty stoked. He's actually down towards you elk hunting, so my lil bro and I had to take care of it. I've quartered out animals, but we wanted to gut this one to take him back to the house to hang whole. Quite the experience all in all!

Very cool buck. Great job!

How far was the shot?

Great job, Congratulations!

Thanks! Means a ton coming from you.
How far was the shot?
22 yards. Pretty broadside. Maybe slightly towards me. Hit a bit high. Got the aorta and both lungs. He piled up quick.

How did you like bringing the deer out on a pole? Only in the movies does that work well. Hauled a wild boar out of a canyon with a friend and learned never, ever, to do that again. Hopefully you didn't have far to go and it wasn't all uphill.

I second this statement. Done it twice that way. never again unless It's a very short walk.

We drug it out of the hole it was in, then mounted it in the pole and hauled it out. After getting out of the canyon, it wasn't bad at all. Way faster than dragging.

We just skinned it. Normally we wait longer snd let it hang a little More before skinning it, but this deer was crawling with ticks. I still feel itchy...
-
Nice buck. The shot placement looks perfect.
-
:yeah: and the broadhead punched a heck of a hole in him.
-
Love his dark rack, nicely done!

Thanks! This is like my 5th year hunting and first time closing the deal on a blacktail. All of that built up practice seemed to pay off. My dad missed a deer from the same stand last week. His was standing in the exact same spot mine was, pure buck fever I think.

I packed a deer out on a pole ONCE.
-
We used to pack bears on a pole sometimes, I had a buddy that would tie front and hind feet together and backpack big black bear out.... But he was a logger and a hella lot tougher than me.

Same!

A buddy and me packed a deer out on a pole for a while then we got tired of it swinging so I packed it out alone
on my shoulders. What a mess

if any of you guys have to do it pole style again if you lay your pole on the chest and lash the whole deer to the pole instead of just the feet it won't swing!! It works great for bear, or I really like to use the old army litters , tie the animal to it after you let it in there and pack it out like a wounded comrade
-
Good idea. We were young and full of you know what. After that I saw my dad make a pack out a nice buck by stuffing the front legs thru back hamstring tendon. Then tying the head backwards.

I watched a 2 fellas pack one out on a pole ONCE. ;)

Waiting for someone to post that they once talked a buddy into packing one out on a pole, knowing it would be miserable and that his buddy would just do it himself.

We hauled my sons bear out of a swamp on a pole like that, it was terrible. Works good on a nice flat road, but never again in a swamp!
-
That’s a nice Blacktail. Congratulations. I have hauled out a five or six bucks on a pole. I have found if you tie the body right to the pole and tie the head to the pole . You eliminate the swaying and it’s not to bad.
-
That is a beautiful buck!!!
Good work!
