Do you guys eat your spring bears? Are they as good as a fall bear fattened up on berries?
I always hunt bears in the fall and I'm thinking about putting in for a spring tag. Is it just a hide thing?
-
I have. On the flip side, a buddy had two that were inedible.
-
Mine was absolutely delicious from last spring
-
I've had meat from multiple spring bears, and never had a bad eater. All eastside animals.

Taste like bear. Delicious.
-
Still eating on my Springer.
Love it.

Spring bears are way better then fall bears and a lot less greasy. Mine have all been good and the only time I hear of bad ones is the bears that get into the skunk cabbage. Never killed one in it but I can imagine it would make em a little ripe lol
-
Yea the skunk cabbage they love to eat really gives the meat that added flavor.
-
Ive always heard Springers are better than Fall bears
-
I have never been able to tell a difference :twocents:

What meat do you guys take off the bears? Sausage from quarters and tenderloins for steaks or do you try to take as much as possible like a deer or elk. Ive never harvested a bear before, sorry for the newb question

Saw someone made corned bear, that's what I want to try. I've shot two Spring bears and eaten many others, even ones shot near sucker spawning streams, all in Ontario. They all tasted great. I shot a September bear in OR many years ago, also delicious.
-
My Mother-in-law who is highly hesitant around any wildgame meat recently went back for a second helping of slow cooked spring bear roast from the crockpot.
-
Thanks for all the replies. Think I'll give it a shot this year.
